Now for something completely different...
Yeah someone's been reading Blame! - and also doesn't practice their backgrounds, perspective or cyberpunk stuff nearly as much as they'd like

It's a shame we don't see more in the way of post-humanism/cyberpunk in Western media :( - The Japanese have been out there writing stories about it for decades; Blame!, Ghost in the Shell, Battle Angel Alita etc. but it's still a fringe topic over here, with most hollywood sci-fi sticking firmly to humans being humans, and androids being androids, with none of the transhuman overlap that'll likely take place.
Yeah, You should check out Transmetropolitan and Ian Bank's "Culture" novels (FEERSUM ENJIN is pretty much the same as BLAME in a lot of respects here; megastructure and datasphere) if you haven't already. (don't read any spoilers or info on FEERSUM ENJIN if you haven't the Wikipedia article spoils it entirely for example) Ian Banks' work is set in a much more distant technologically advanced future than is depicted in most cyberpunk though.
I think, ironically, the popularity of cyberpunk in the late 80's and early 90's has left the concept seeming outdated in the west nowadays. It's a shame. I think it's mainly because real world advances with the internet lead to poor setting to create tension if crossed with cyberpunk. For example separating characters to create tension would require contrivance when everyone can chat on Facebook by just thinking about it. The "oh no our mobile phones don't get signal in the haunted house" thing is already starting to grate on me.
