Well I came up with this idea a lil while back and well I quite like how this one turned out. This is what you get when being human is no longer defined by flesh and blood.
I had been nervous at first. I guess most are. I was investing a large sum of money for this. Some of my family thought it was foolish. "You selling your soul!" One or two had told me. I pushed those thoughts out. This was the way of the future. So obviously the next step. But people feared it. So much so that I had to travel to Japan for the procedure. My new cybernetic body would be waiting for me. They'd remove my brain and place it in a synthetic shell within the body's skull. The shell would release nanites. Four of them for every cell in my brain. They'd integrate and become a part of it. Slowly what my biology used to do would be done soley by the nanites. Then I'd be completely cyberized. For all intensive purposes I'd be immortal. On top of that my new body would be able to do things my old one couldn't. Skin tone and texture could be changed with a thought. I could change the color of my eyes, hair, even make my hair longer. I could even change the shape of my ears and nose. Virtually anything that was humanoid was possible with it. If i wanted to I could pass for a normal joe.
I remember some people telling me that it'd never feel like my old body. That everything would seem fake and numb. Muted. But when I opened my new eyes for the first time a day after the procedure I found out how wrong they were. It was like seeing the world for the first time. Everything seemed more vibrant. My sense of touch. If anything it was magnified. All my senses were. Including taste when I had my first meal. My mind was firing on all cylinders. I was grasping concepts and ideas I'd struggled with for years virtually without effort. I was a new me. A better me.
I remember during my Acclamation I learned from some of the others there that it had become sort of a tradition to take on a new name. I thought the idea was nice so I picked one I thought appropriate. Kennith isn't all that exciting. Tekio was right up my ally. It was Japanese for Adapt. After the acclamation period was done I traveled back to the States. But I wouldn't be staying. See I'd found out that here, although the product and end result were perfectly legal, the lines of research that lead to it wasn't. The same when for genetic augmentation. You could have them but the research couldn't take place in the country. Hypocrisy I just couldn't stand anymore. Maybe there'd be progress. Probably would be. But I wasn't about to sit around and wait. I had a degree in Paleontology and there was plenty of work in the melting permafrost of Canada. So I moved there. Got myself a nice place in a city with good transportation. So with that I was out of there. Sure some family didn't approve but I didn't care. North I'll go. What I'll find is anybody's guess. But I look forward to the experience. And much more after that.
Well hope you guys liked the pic and the lil story. ^^
