Alternative title: “Don’t worry, I’ve done this before!”
Yeah, as you can see, Ratharn and Schism Venefirous are true friends… sharing everything - even the same surf board! XD
Ratharn is quite a bit heavier than Schism, that’s why he had to stand on the aft part of the board… but I doubt that this would really increase the balance or dynamics here. ^^”
Yepp… I do love drawing “summer related” artworks lately, don’t I?
Just a little fun picture… and practise of anatomy and dynamic poses.

Yeah, the format of this artwork was meant to be a cool 1920x1080 wallpaper for you. But the characters are quite small, aren’t they? Here’s a larger resolution of this picture:

You did a nice job, I like it. However, when it comes to putting two people on a board, you need a more powerful wave to get going and you need a larger board or it'll just sink under and the wave will throw you both off or just not catch. I've only seen two people on a single board in the 1950/60/70s documentaries on surfing, they usually consisted of the professional surfer and a smaller, lighter female who would be stood on his shoulders or some odd stunt. It's just for showing off.
Awwwww, see? THAT was the mistake! My refernce shots were made of ONE surfer... and his board. Only one board for one person!
^^"
I didn't even know that there ARE boards... for two people!
Oh, by the way... this is supposed to be a fun artwork and I AM VERY SURE, that both guys will fall into the water in the next seconds.
XD

Well, I've had no particular "problems" at drawing him... 'cause the yellow sundragons "Sunny" or "Soleils" (which I've done for a friend of mine) are very similar in design: dragon with smooth skin, hair, ears and horns! ^_^
BUT I admit, I've had a lot of fun drawing both characters. ^_^

Thanks for the comment, buddy. ^__^ (the picture will be uploaded to SF and DA tomorrow)
Yeah, I've had a lot of fun drawing these guys and... the reason behind this surprise gift is private, too.
I'm sorry to hear that you've had a bad time about some people. I can speak from experience, this really sucks. Maybe, you try to make a new contact in time.

^__^ Thanksssssssssssssssssssssss, pal!
Yessss, the whole picture filled me with joy, fun and summertime feelings.
BUT I have to admit that I can't take credit for the background. This was a photograph of a wave, which I've... intelligently changed with splendid filters and effects! *cough*

I was just about to say "Oh my, you did the waves?" But after reading, I see it´s a picture altered XD But that´s acceptabe too heheh. But I rather more doing most of the things y myself even if it looks wierd heheh.
Anyway, the pic looks a little bit more epic than fun to me, the colorng is too lively, everything match nice with the characters and good composition too ^ ^ Maybe I would add some expression of excited by doing a sport like that to express more emotion, but that´s ok too heh ^ ^
Great work man!

Yes, I am not a liar and would never claim to have drawn THIS by hand!!!!!!! ^^"
And I LOVE this filter really much! It's adding a photograph to the drawn artwork in such a believable way.
About the characters... okay, I've done them in my usual style. Nothing more and nothing less. But the "fun aspect" is about... well, they ARE going to take a dive in the next moment!! XD
THANK YOU!

I've not surfed, but I do know that balance is key, and I look for clues about the balance exercised in this scene, and what verisimilitude there exists to the casual observer. To me, it seems spot on. You do have a bigger, more muscular, taller, obviously heavier subject at the back, which you explain in the text as well. In front, you have someone using splayed toes (better grip and a known technique that creatures of varying species use to increase stability), a tail well out from the body used as a centrifigal counterbalance, and a crouch to lower the center of gravity, so more control over tilt and direction of the board might be exercised.
It seems quite well thought-out to me, a very appropriate pose for the fluid dynamic drawn in the action of the image. The water is both simple and complex, lacking a particularly glassy or sheen look to it, more of a pastique, but it works for being a split-second freeze-frame moment in time when froth and motion are a blur and colors and background can take so much detail as to detract attention from the main subject as to become too distracting. Therefore, I can see a good compromise was made with the "color and pixel resolution" of the water in order to allow the eye to accept an impression of the wave that works well and go back to taking in the intricacies of the main subjects.
The fur of Rath, the smooth hide of Schism, these are readily apparent and not casually done, nor are their musculature, or expressions. They both are intently focused on the waters they're steering toward, and their body language shows a balance toward keeping erect on their board, but as well it looks not as if they are worried but rather facing a fun challenge together. This is something one does not infer from facial expression alone, but a gestalt of facial expression, hand and finger pose, and muscle tension, among other clues - and not easy to read if the artist cannot do a good enough set of anatomical rendering nor muscular proportion and sizing, along with expressions and posing.
Reptile, you have these talents. You can depict an extreme sport well, including not having a blank expression on the participant, body and face. These are not action figures put into a scene with a backdrop and prop. You are THERE. This is illustrative talent, borne of your comic creating chops. You do them and yourself proud.

Yay, great large comment!!!! ^___^ Here comes the scaly lover, hehehe... though "Ratharn" does not have scales but fur. ^^" Well, he's a dragon nevertheless.
Balance is important, but as you can see... Rath is so heavy and... my, how did he even get ON that board in the first place??? XD
Sure, I've chosen the characters to stand on the board as best as possible... and you've explained it even better than I did.
In the end, they're both gonna fall into the water....
About Rath's fur... and the shadings... you are right. Since I didn't had to draw the backgorund (it was a photo), I had to take care for the characters even more. And "fur" is something I like to shade - even if it's really annoying sometimes.
So far, I'm glad with the shading and it's the key to a believable artwork. ^^
I have posed for Rath myself (no, I'm not that huge) and I really imagined being on that board... waving around and being really frightened. XD
Thanks a lot for this large, intelligent and sweet comment. That's highly appreciated!
Man, you're going to comete with me when it comes to "constructive critique comments" (CCC)!!!! :D
Sweeet!

Thanks, Rath! ^_________^ I'm truely happy you like it and it's been huge fun!!!!
I don't know if this is one of the most amazing ones... but I've tried hard to capture your character as best as possible.
Since the background is a photo shot, the characters are all my handywork and most important.
