What you are looking at is a present someone gave to me while I was at work today. I was on my break when the woman came by and showed off a TIGER SALAMANDER she found...in her Back yard! And so she said If I promised to take care of it, I could have it :D (Should have seen the looks on my co-worker's faces when I walked in with this little guy)
Still havent thought up a name for him though. The Terrarium I have set up (not the one in the picture, much larger) is only temporary untill tomorrow when I can go pick up an actual terrarium. But still, My birthday is tomorrow and I got my first birthday present early :) (Turning 29 for anyone who is curious)

I really hate to burst your bubble but in most places it is illegal to take an animal out of the wild and keep it as a pet. Also, it's possibly full of parasites that could be dangerous to any other herp pets you have. I suggest you find a good place locally and release it.
Then I can tell you 100% for sure that there are lots of great folk out there breeding and working with herps. I'm a Canadian as well with lots of herp pets. And yes, here in Canada, it's not ok to keep wild animals as pets without a permit. I wouldn't bother asking the pet shop because they generally are not terribly knowledgeable about legislation, laws, etc.
On a personal note, even if it WEREN'T illegal, it would still be wrong to keep an animal plucked out of the wild, unless it were to be used in a breeding program, etc. Let it live out it's wild life.

I see :( Well then I will take him in tomorrow so that they can find a safe place to release him. He could have been someone's pet who managed to escape, but regardless, I guess I will just have to let it go. Gave it a couple of earthworms and it enjoyed them from the looks, so at least it wont starve :p
Still. Pretty big bummer on the birthday

Well I have been looking at some things. Dont know If it makes any difference, but I live in alberta canada, and I am running a search and I get hits that say that it is not illegal for certain types..
Either way. Tomorrow I will take it in when I go to the petshop and ask JUST To make sure. If its illegal, than I will happily hand it over so that they can release it to the wild.
