Just a tiny little gripe of sorts I made while comparing Yuyu Hakusho and Bleach. I usually compare to Yuyu just because the themes between the two shows are so relatively similar. I'm trying really hard to get into Bleach because I DO enjoy it a lot, but FUCK do they ever spent a lot of time focusing on people who don't really matter.
I mean, Ichigo is the main character of the series, yet there are episodes in which he doesn't even fucking show up! Sometimes for 2-3 episodes even! Even if Yusuke wasn't really doing anything during the episode, he was at least THERE and you got to see him. And it wouldn't be so bad if it were the 3-4 friends Ichigo brought along they were switching to because Yuyu focused some on Yusuke's friends a lot too, but not on every minor character that came along!
As for bunny's costumes, in order for the Yuyu Hakusho side one to make sense, you'd have to know I once played as an older version of Shippo conformed slightly to fit the series in a Yuyu Hakusho RPG (in a forum), and though it was a short lived experience, I had fun with it. X3 Plus... I couldn't recall any other outfits from the show I could draw from memory, sooo... fuck it XD I'm going with Shippo X3

I'd be slightly more leinant with Naruto, just because, as I said with Yusuke, Naruto is at least PRESENT in most every if not EVERY episode. And even with flashbacks for other minor characters, at least they generally still stick to the topic at hand and further the plot in some way... usually...
But you are right, there is a lot of pointless things in Naruto too that could have been skipped over. Things like Lee's fight with Garaa were fine because its establishing the level of badass for the villian the main three character would fight later. But then the fights with the Sound Three and later the fight between Shikamaru and Tamaki(Tamya? Whatever... the chic with the fan) were pretty pointless...

Yeah... This is what happens when an anime is started at the same time as the manga and they're then forced to create filler episodes so that the manga's story goes far enough ahead that they can then make an anime version of the next storyline. Moreso when the next storyline is particularly long or simply can't have any filler between it and the start of the next storyline.

Well, character depth is a good thing, but every single character doesn't need their own thing. Its better to have a middle ground between the two.
Thats why I like the Primary, Secondary, Tertiary character system. Feature primary the most, secondaries get their own things occasionally, and tertiaries are there to make sure that everything runs smoothly, or as redshirts.
