interesting then. I am aware of the 3:1 chinese pattern, and english 4:1 / 6:1 / 8:1 and doubled combos of that, but have yet to hear of japanese using chainmaille that mimics the circa ~1200AD version of europe. not to say it can't be japanese, just would be a new version - especially considering the arrows would go right through the rings (although I do know boxes are hard to do following the flow patterns)
Here is a single layer of Japanese 8 in 2. As with European and Persian, some were strictly decoration, as you can see this is almost nothing like European 8 in 2. The continuation of this weave has multiple layers of this weave linked together with another layer inbetween them linked by the vertical rings with another vertical ring, and that ring then spreads out making it's own layer. So the process goes to make as many of these layers as you need/want, then weave them together, one ring at a time.
