Well, some of the things the impressionists were into were visible brush strokes intended to convey the dynamic, emotional side of a scene, and an emphasis on the vibrance of light. When I say you did it in a style like that movement, I totally mean it as a compliment because their stuff was beautiful! :)

I know from experience that smiles are hard to do on characters with snouts, so it's a clever move that you not only contorted the lips on the side (which, in some drawing's cases (i.e. mine) are vague as a facial gesture), but also gave him a cute little grin in the center!
And as always, the textures are amazing... the fur, the shirt, the sweater... hell, even the glasses! Kind of an old English... distinguished and noble atmosphere. Illustrious, yet also not aristocratic... a down to earth sort of feel.
"Dignified!" There's the word I'm looking for. :)

Yeah, it's quite difficult to me to render believable, realistic anthros - In general, and in particular things like expressions. Animals are quite different from humans, after all, when it comes to emotions and how they express them. If a real dog gave you an expression like that, you should probably back up slowly...
And "dignified" works for Paulie, I believe, as do most other terms you mentioned.
Thanks for the feedback! :)
