We just got back from the vet -- who says everything looks great with Hawthorne! (He did SO well there, he didn't even seem that upset after they took the blood, though he did yowl a bit when they gave him his shots. Poor baby. He was so well behaved though. He just laid on the table mostly and looked beautiful.)
They estimated him at about 11 months old. We're taking him back in in about a month for his booster shot and to get him neutered (I'm sure he's thrilled).
Thanks again to those who helped with his bills and all of the well-wishers. We're really excited to have him.
All the women at the veterinary clinic seemed to like him and got all upset when we said we found him in the woods and then talked about how beautiful he is. ;D

happens all the time that people dump kittens. cats are not so domesticated that they cannot often survive on their own in the wild or by scavanging just fine. every can in my life, my mom was kind of a cat lady, after ozwald addopted us, many years ago, when i was in grade school and we lived in colfax. in those days, only well off people, more so then we were, took household pets to the vet's. mom never did. and so of course, when there was female there would be kittens. we never dumpted them. mom would just get more food for them. until they wandered off on their own. they would come and go completely as they wished. we were far enough from major roads the likelihood of their being killed in traffic was not great.
so they were all kind of half ferral, but some that chose to be were very friendly.
well it was a different world and a different time, and the kind of small towns we lived in, were a lot smaller then even the same places are now.
