Ok, my brain came up with a weird conclusion. I'm guessing this character's name is Dart, then there's that hat which reminds me of the Three Musketeers, which could mean that Dart is short for Dar'tagnon, which means this is a dark, furry, wolf version of Dar'tagnon from 'The Three Musketeers'.
