Episode 1B: Pride and Prejudice of Peter Gavriil.
The monorail system provided Lucas and Peter a quick and easy trip to the freezing Umiiruka section. They spent the entire ride on the train that was shaped like Spiked Seadra in silence. This was the first time that Peter and Lucas ever had one on one time (their spirit partners excluded). Peter wasn’t one to start conversations, but that’s not why he spent this time in silence.
Being alone with Lucas, honestly this was a bit of a dream come true. He’s always had this crush on Lucas, but never had the nerve to tell him or anyone for that matter. Their mutual friend Sora had figured it out and constantly encourages Peter to tell Lucas. But Peter’s never had the right opportunity. It didn’t help that Lucas was openly a Christian. He knew that Lucas wouldn’t accept his love. Still, ever since they met, Lucas was the only person that Peter felt an attraction to. He had to confess, but had to choose his words very carefully.
“So,” Lucas brought his sunglasses back to the top of his head, “having fun yet?”
“Hum,” Peter’s thoughts were interrupted.
“You okay,” Lucas pat Peter’s arm (as he couldn’t reach the shoulder), “You’re still not overheating are you?”
“No,” Peter blushed at Lucas’s touch, “I’m just… excited.”
“Still overwhelmed by Duel World,” Lucas smiled placing his hands behind his head as a pillow, “I still can’t believe someone built a Theme Park this amazing.”
“Yeah,” Peter lowered himself to rest on his knees. His opportunity had passed him by again. The sea serpent monorail came to a stop not five seconds after that. With it, he slowly rose back to his feet. Even in his human form Peter was a giant. The doors opened with a gust off cool air. Not too cold, for most guests had their own fur coats to protect them. However, Peter was used to this type of temperatures.
“Sweet Momma,” Lucas shivered, “I didn’t think it be this cold.”
“It like cool spring day in my country,” Peter joked with a fake-ish accent, he rubbed up and down his arms as he exited the train.
It was even colder getting off. Lucas and Peter decided to split up for a while to see what they should do first. There weren’t as many humans in this part of the park. The earthen furries had their own natural fur coats for protection, but there were some Pokémorphs and Digimorph as well. Many of the penguin furs were dressed up as random duel monsters all down the streets.
Peter recognized many of the characters here, being that most existed in his deck. Small children were throwing snowballs at each other while they waited in line for the Frostosaurus Mega-slides or the Ice Barrier Kingdom to the right. Peter laughed at the Golett morph that was dressed up as Koa’ki Meru Ice guarding the passage into the Ice Barrier Kingdom. The left led to the more warmer sections of Umiiruka, but Peter was drawn in to the colder sections. Specifically, a stand that had a Nightmare Penguin serving sno-cones.
“You want one,” Lucas reappeared still trying to warm himself up.
“You’re still cold,” Peter stated the obvious.
“I’ll be fine,” Lucas tried to play it cool by putting on his shades, “I can barely feel the icebite anymore.”
“Quit being an idiot and buy a t-shirt or something,” Gabu popped in no longer in his spirit form and surprised the two humans. Well, Peter wasn’t that phased, but freaked out when Lucas bumped into him.
“Gabu,” Lucas tried to recover, “are you trying to give me a heart attack?”
“It’s obvious that you’re freezing,” Comrade towered behind Peter also in his full fledged glory. The Polar Bear stood taller than even Peter.
“Oh what do you know,” Lucas waved an accusing finger at the beasts, “what are you two doing in your physical forms? You’re going to scare people into thinking that the animals got loose.”
“Seriously,” Gabu raised an eyebrow, “you think that us talking animals are going to draw any attention in a Theme Park based off of Duel Monsters?”
“He’s right,” Peter nodded, Comrade mimicking him.
“Okay,” Lucas sighed, reseting his composure, yet still shivering, “but if anyone asks you’re name’s Silver Fang, alright?”
“What about me,” Comrade pointed at himself.
“I don’t know,” Lucas shook, “whoo… is it just me or is it getting colder?”
Comrade pointed upwards near the railings that led down the streets and up the buildings, “the cold is being produced by those water vapors.”
The humans and Gabu took a look at what Comrade was pointing at. Indeed the only reason that this section of the park could stay this cool was due to the misty vapors rising up and out of many locations around the park. Sort of like it’s own air conditioning system, except with cold water.
“Come here,” Peter said pulling Lucas into his arms before he realized what he was doing, “my Comrade’s fur can keep you warm.”
Peter shoved his friend into the bear’s embrace before shivering himself. Lucas felt more cold than ever. Comrade took note of this, before swaying his head ‘no’.
“This would never work,” Comrade allowed Lucas to stand by Peter, “the water sticks to my fur.”
“And n-n-now I’m cold an-n-nd wet,” Lucas shivered harder than ever now.
“Oh, for crying out loud,” a white haired man dressed in what can best be described by Lucas as an arabian belly dancer with long clothes protecting all sides of his pants like armor dragged him into one of the nearby shops. Peter knew that the employee was dressed as one of the Secret Guards of the Ice Barrier. The other three followed suit at the strange kidnapping of their friend. The man dug around behind the counter before he pointed at the rack of clothes, “Get changed into something dry and”
“But I-I-I don’t…”
“Don’t worry about money,” the man rolled his eyes, “we can’t have our guests freeze to death. It’s just not good business sense.”
“Thank you,” Lucas said before he picked out a dry black long sleeve shirt that had a jagged design printed on it and took off his own, “I knew this place be cold, but still…”
“You should see what it’s like back in my country,” the Secret Guard turned to scan his Employee ID card into the register, and spoke with an accent, “T’is like warm spring day, no?”
Peter stopped at the door, recognizing the voice even after all these years, “Andrei,”
“Eh, how’d you know what my-,” the man looked up at the Russian, “Wait a minute… Peter?”
Peter didn’t say a single word. For the first time in years, he felt cold. Truly cold. Peter clinched his fist tightly as the Secret Guard had began a march over to him. Gabu moved out of the way of the little man. Comrade tilted his head wondering why Peter was so angry all of the sudden with the employee that was happy to see him. This “Andrei” character wasn’t in the least unhappy to see Peter. He was smiling a lot.
“(Translated from Russian)*How are you old comrade?*,” Andrei purposely spoke in a language that Gabu and Lucas didn’t understand as he hugged the bigger man.
“Get off of me,” Peter shoved Andrei away.
“Hey, that’s no way to talk to your old boyfriend,” now Andrei spoke english on purpose.
“Boyfriend,” Gabu and Comrade looked at each other.
“Wow, it’s so cool to meet an old friend of Peter’s,” Lucas reached out a hand to shake Andrei’s, “what are the chances?”
“Very low,” Peter frowned, he knew Andrei very well. He was also very familiar with Russian customs.
“I have an idea,” Andrei continued to smile, “how about I give you and your friends a personal tour of the Ice Barrier Kingdom?”
“Wow, that’d be awesome,” Lucas lost his composure for a second, and ran for the door. The moment it opened, he was reminded how cold it was outside the store, “I-I may nn-need t-to buy a pp-pair of-ff-ff long-gr pants first.”
“Over here is the Mirror of the Ice Barrier,” Andrei pointed out the center of the court from inside the IBK walls. It was an amazing artifact (despite being just a replica of the game card). The hexagon shaped mirror was surrounded by gold and sparkling fragments of ice. At three of its corners was the head of each of the Ice Barrier Dragons (not that anybody can really tell the subtile differences). Lucas and the beasts ran up to the mirror itself. The glass surface was never foggy, but it was warped to make any who look into it feel silly.
“My face is funny look’n,” Gabu laughed at his reflection.
“Isn’t it always,” Lucas rubbed his partner’s scalp and ears.
“Which is my best side,” Comrade kept switching between his left and right eye to find how many different ways his face would warp.
Peter however, was far too lost in worry to admire the details put into the “artifact”. He decided it’d be best for him to put on his white t-shirt before they left the store. He didn’t want to present himself as eye candy in front of this old friend.
“Peter,” Comrade rose up before, “you used to love this game when we lived in the tundras.”
“Is that where my old friend disappeared to when he left Russia?”
Peter gulped a bit. His disappearance from his homeland had happened suddenly, but the two of them were no longer friends long before that ever happened.
“I suppose,” Comrade tilted his head, “I never asked Peter about where he came from.”
“Yeah Peter,” Lucas punched his friend in the arm, “why don’t you ever tell us about Russia?”
“Didn’t want to,” Peter shivered from the memories as a child.
“Hey, sweet duel disk,” Andrei bent down and took out Lucas’s disk from his travel bag, “are you a duelist?”
“You kidding,” Gabu happily walked up next to his partner, “Lucas here could out duel some of the best.”
“That’s not true,” Lucas rubbed the back of his head, “Peter is a better duelist that I am, any day of the week.”
“No. I’m not…,” Peter shook his head.
“Then why have I never beaten you before.”
“You let me,” Peter always guessed it as such. Lucas, Sora, Leo, and even the air headed Michael all had the skills to adapt to different strategies on the fly. Peter took forever to come up with any strategy and if his plan fails then he can’t adjust to a new one.
“I don’t let you win. You have great instincts,” Lucas pat his friend on the back, “he’s just being modest.”
“What kind of instincts,” Andrei put the duel disk back in its proper place.
“Not quite sure,” Lucas shrugged. He wasn’t lying. Peter never tried to explain his feeling, but it was obvious it’d be best to listen to his gut. The rest of the gang had similar instincts, but they never shone through like Peter’s would.
“Hey, I want to show you something,” Andrei shifted on of the cloths on his costume, before holding out an object, “Look, I still have our knife.”
The knife wasn’t sharp. Being strictly decorative, the actual blade was made of white wood rather than metal. Down it’s sides was a pack of wolves that were running down a white forest. It’s tip had a small sapphire on each side. The handle depicted the image a resting arctic wolf looking on to the rest of the pack. The handle also had the metal head of a wolf at it’s base. Peter recognized it right away. He had given it to Andrei as a gift, but instantly regretted it. Peter had to get it back, but the Andrei he remembered was a little bit…
“Wicked knife,” Lucas interrupted Peter’s thoughts again.
“Thanks, it was a gift from my boyfriend,” Andrei smiled as he put the knife back in it’s place on his leather belt, “I’ve been keeping it safe all these years. Doesn’t it look great with my costume?”
“Well, it’s not very accurate for a Duel Monster to have, but it’s awesome.”
“I guess not,” Andrei shrugged looking out to another part of the courtyard, “Oh, hey. I’ve got to get back to work, but my shift’s done right after the show.”
“The show,” Gabu’s ears perked up, he loves human entertainment, “what kind of show.”
“It’s the March of the Ice Barrier’s Secret Guards,” Andrei drew his twin swords from their hiding places, “three of my fellow employees go out to the Magic Triangle to perform a special three way sword dance.”
“Are you any good,” Lucas pretended to lean against Gabu.
“In old country,” Andrei joked around with that fake-ish accent, “Puny swords like these are but punny toys for puny men with puny-”
“Andrei,” Peter snapped. He had almost forgotten about the ‘other language’ that Andrei liked to use, but he couldn’t let Lucas know that. He coughed before continuing, “erm, it sounds like a splendid performance. We must see it.”
“Great, so you’ll both meet me afterwords?”
“Sure,” Peter looked away, 'what had I just agreed to…'
“Great, we’re going to have so much fun.”
When the performance started, Andrei and two other members who dressed up as the Secret Guards of the Ice Barrier faced each other on the Magic Triangle. Their swords in the ready. Then they charged at each other as if they were to attack each other, but then they tossed their blades in the air and caught a different set as they passed each other. They continued this three man juggling and acrobatic act with the entire crowd watching them from outside the circle.
Lucas and Peter were watching from a “secret” higher location. This location was usually used by the Secret Guards as they “protect” their kingdom from enemy forces. The two of them could barely fit on top of that balcony. Their beastly partners reverted back to their spirit forms so that they all could see the performance below. Peter wasn’t really watching the performance, neither was Lucas…
“So Peter,” Lucas asked without taking his eyes off of the performers, “what’s bugging you, big guy?”
“Nothing.”
“Peter, we’ve been on the same team for quite a while now,” Lucas leaned on the railing, “You’re not much of a public speaker, but your silent treatments speak louder than words ever could.”
“…”
“I can’t read minds Peter,” Lucas turned to his teammate, “so why don’t you tell me?”
“As you know Lucas,” Peter sighed before he decided to explain, “I’m gay. I’ve been gay for as long as I can remember. Andrei… was my first boyfriend. My only really.”
“Yeah, so? I’ve known that since I met you,” Lucas looked back out to the performance as it’s skills had bumped up a notch. Gabu had cried out in fear that the performers were going to skewer themselves on flying swords, “but what does being gay have to do with it?”
“Unlike America, Russia was more crude with their view of my kind,” Peter lifted his shirt, pointing to an old scar that rested just under his right arm, “I got this when Andrei announced our love to a bar. Started bad fight.”
“Whoa…,” Lucas could barely make out the scar.
“And this one,” Peter moved his hand to show the back of his neck, “was when they discovered that my family were Christian afterwards. They used cigars to make these.”
Lucas didn’t see anything on the back of Peter’s neck, but then some scars do heal. Then again, the mental scar always takes longer to fade away, “I’m sorry.”
“Not your fault,” Peter sighed, “I was always protecting Andrei from getting hurt, so I…”
“So you gave him that knife?”
“That Knife,” Peter growled, before he suppressed his anger, “That knife belongs to my family. It was hand crafted many generations ago. It is not worth anything physically, but it is passed down from papa to child.”
“Why would you give him such a family heirloom,” Comrade’s spirit turned to his partner.
“We didn’t have much, but I thought I could give my heart to Andrei by giving him our knife.”
“What happened between the two of you?”
“Andrei had this pride about being gay. I did not. He thought that all Gays were the same,” Peter had leaned on the railing for support, “I realized that he only liked me for… how do you say it? Andrei liked What I am, instead of Who I am. So I broke up with him.”
“I think I understand. He liked you because you were gay and nothing else,” Lucas thought back to the day the Dueling Team was born, “I think that we all want that in some way or another.”
“I gave him my heart and I wish that I never see him again.”
The four of them were silent for a while. The show was about over at this point, but they still had to meet up with Andrei afterwords. Lucas wasn’t one to break an engagement of any kind. But now, he had a different reason to meet up with Andrei. Lucas raised Peter’s ice themed duel disk. Peter had no idea when Lucas got his hands on it or why he had it now.
“Then take it back.”
“What,” Peter had no idea what his friend was talking about.
“The knife, I mean,” Lucas passed Peter his disk, “you need to take it back from him and that would break the connection that the two of you have with each other.”
“No, I can’t,” Peter shook his head, “I could never do that to him.”
“You could try to grow an actual backbone,” Gabu growled, “that knife is rightfully yours and your family’s. You have the right to take it back or else-”
“Gabu, shush,” Lucas held the wolf spirit’s muzzle shut, “I’m sure that if you just ask Andrei to return it to you then he will.”
“No, he wont. He’s not the kind of person to give anything back.”
“You and I both know how much people can change.”
“Not Andrei. He is too suborn.”
“You know what,” Lucas crossed his arms as he left, “in some ways, so are you.”
After that Peter was left alone with his own thoughts (and Comrade since they’re in separable anyway). He knew that Lucas was right. They had to get that knife back and Peter had to rid himself of these ghosts for good.
“Remind me again,” Lucas scratched the back of his head, “were we supposed to go left or right at this point.”
“I think that Andrei said that the break room was this way,” Gabu looked down one of the employee hallways.
“Left,” Peter and Comrade pointed in the other direction.
“Thanks guys,” Lucas continued down the correct path.
“Oh sure, don’t listen to me,” the wolf spirit rolled his eyes sarcastically, “it’s not like I’m not your spirit partner or anything.”
“Gabu,” Lucas looked at his partner floating by, “the last time I listened to your directions we were lost in the forest for three months.”
“That wasn’t my fault,” Gabu ‘sat’ to think about it, “but still a good point.”
“There,” Peter pointed to the trio of Secret Guards. Andrei was the first to see them, however…
“Intruders,” his fellow Guard pointed at the guests.
“Intruders,” Lucas looked at Peter, “are you certain that’s Andrei?”
“You’re not allowed to be back here,” Andrei signaled for one of his fellow guards, “quick go get reinforcement. We’ll hold them off here.”
“Right away,” the fellow guard ran down the hallway.
“Hold on, you… Oh I get it,” Lucas put his fist in his palm, “they’re role playing.”
“Role-playing,” Peter didn’t know what that meant.
“Yeah, they pretend that we’re invading the castle and they pretend to defend it.”
“I don’t think that…,” Peter was getting the chills, something was up about this.
“Get out of here or face the consequences,” Andrei raised his sword.
“So what kind of consequences are we talking about ‘ere,” Lucas asked using a Brooklyn accent for some reason.
“You’ll have to duel the two of us!”
“Sound sweet to me,” Lucas raised a thumb, “a tag duel good with you, buddy?”
“If we must,” Peter nodded.
“Then let’s get our game face on,” Lucas turned to his partner, “Gabu?”
“I’m up for a fight,” Gabu slashed his paws forward.
“Comrade,” Peter snapped his fingers to get his partner’s attention, Comrade stomped forward on his hind legs.
“On Stage,” the humans shouted together as their beastly partners disappeared in a flash of light. Their spiritual bodies took on the physical from of these little handheld devices. Lucas and Peter simultaneously caught the devices while pointlessly posing. They both click a small switch as they each inserted a unique metal emblems into the slots that opened up, “Nature’s Furious… Revolution!”
Each of the boys pulled the trigger before disappearing behind veils of Light and Ice respectfully.
Lucas felt the energies of Gabu’s nature seep into him. His hair brunet hair grew long and grey. His ears slipped to the top of his head as they became just like Gabu’s. A wolf’s tail slipped it’s way out from under his belt. His new pants were replaced with ripped jeans and huge boots placed themselves on his feet. Lucas’ nose grew black and stretched out slightly. The collar of his shirt popped into a collar of fur just like you’d see on an old rock star costume. His emblem appeared on his belt.
Peter’s transformation was different from Lucas. His clothes were bleached white like his hair. His shirt grew sleeves all the way down to his wrists. New white shoes popped onto his feet after his swim trunks grew out into white pants. A bomber hat covered his white hair, but polar bear ears slipped their way out of little slits. Similar patches of fur sprouted from his shoulders. Arctic’s ice emblem appeared on his collar.
When Lucas opened his eyes, they became a stunning gold. He wildly posed as he introduced himself. “Wild Child of the Forest Night,” he shouted bursting out of the ball of light, duel disk in the ready, “Furious Fang.”
Peter’s eyes remained black when he opened them. He slammed his fists together before he introduced himself. “Frozen Loner of the Far North,” he stood tall as he broke out of the Ice veil, his duel disk still in standby mode, “Fury Arctic.”
“What just happened,” the second Secret Guard was dumbstruck at the transformations. They don’t happen everyday, let alone in front of other humans.
“I don’t know, Bruno,” Andrei readied his Ice Barrier Duel Disk, “but these freaks are going down.”
Bruno did the same along with Arctic and his Tundra Duel Disk. Arctic and Andrei made certain that they were face to face with each other in this duel. Andrei smiled at Arctic as if he liked his new form. Arctic shivered from the look. Russian customs declared that smiling this much would be considered as an insult. Even after years in America, Peter had yet to get out of that habit. He knew that Andrei had not.
“Let’s Duel!”
“Invaders get the first move,” Andrei announced
“Whoo-ooooh Draw,” Fang howled, spinning on his first draw, “I play the Garoth, Lightsworn Warrior!” A white and gold armored giant of a blue haired man stepped out of the card carrying a huge axe. (1850/1300) “Next I set a pair of cards facedown and End my Turn!”
“Nice move, but are you forgetting about your Lightsworn’s cost for being on the field,” Bruno pointed to the warrior, “how many cards do you have to drop from your deck?”
“None actually,” Fang smiled, before howling, “Hooowl! Garoth doesn’t Mill unless another Lightsworn does it first.”
“Oh really? Hm, guess you learn something new every day, but it’s now my turn,” Bruno drew his card, “I summon Defender of the Ice Barrier!” An armored fox leaped out unto the field swishing it’s crystalized tail (200/1600), “Due to his ability, you can’t attack with any monster that has more Attack power than his Defensive power. That’s it for now. Your move big guy!”
“Draw,” Arctic moved quickly and silently, “Summon!” Snow quickly collected itself to from a giant snowball. The snow cracked and fell away like an egg for a plushie like white dragon to pop unto the field. It’s roar was like a kitten’s yawn as it released a frozen breath.
“Arctic,” Fang turned to his partner, “you need to say more than just what you’re doing in a duel.”
“Snow Dragon,” Arctic pointed to the field as he continued placing a facedown, “Facedown. End.”
“Well, I guess that it’s my turn, Draw,” Andrei announced, “I activate the power of Magic Triangle! By showing you three of my hand’s Ice Barrier Monsters…” Andrei revealed his Dewdark, Prior, and Spellbreaker, “Then I get to destroy one card on your side of the field, such as Fang’s Garoth.” The three Ice Barriers stood on a Magic Triangle (just like the one that was in the Ice Barrier courtyard) that had appeared behind Andrei. They shined brightly as a magic tornado snaked its way from the center and stabbed it’s way through Garoth’s exposed abs. “And then I get to Special Summon an Ice Barrier to the field I pick Spellbreaker!” The blue and red uniformed woman appeared with a flash of water an light. She held out her staff as if she were in a magical girl anime. “Now I summon Dewdark and Special my Prior with his ability!” Dewdark was a ninja that leaped out onto the field. He stood with a knife in each hand, pointed outward from his body. (1200/800) As opposed a bearded man with a blue hooded cloak walked out of the card using his staff like a walking stick. It reminded Arctic of his father before his hair greyed. (1000/400)
“I’ll also discard one Ice Barrier Monster to the grave to activate my Prior’s second ability.” Bruno watched as his partner discarded a copy of General Gantala, a very powerful monster to the grave. “Now none of us can’t use any Spell cards until the next time that I end my turn.” Prior stomped his staff on the ground as the hexagon end of this staff lit up and radiated across the field. “And now I well, end my turn.”
“Hey, Andrei,” Bruno gave Andrei a look, “that’s a bit much for a first turn.”
“When defending the kingdom, it’s best to go all out,” Andrei announced, as if he really was just doing his duty, “especially people we don’t know.”
“It’s my turn,” Fang announced, “I Summon Ehren, the LightSworn Monk.” For a monk, this monster didn’t look the part. She flipped out on the field with the style of a gymnasts twirling her golden boe staff in hand. (1600/1000), “and since her attack strength is not technically higher than your Defender, I get to attack! Go attack with Shining Flipkick!”
Ehren leaped high into the air and flipped down upon and shattered the fox. The ice shards that Defender had become blasted their way towards Bruno. They zipped by like a thousand needles. Bruno playfully fell backwards from the holographic assault.
“Is that all you got,” Bruno staggered back to his feet as if he was really hurt.
“Well, since you asked,” Fang howled once more as he spun once, revealing his trap depicting a maiden surrounded by a magic circle, “Glorious Illusion!” and then with a second twist, revealing another trap with a name that describes it perfectly, “and Light Spiral! We’ll skip Light Spiral’s effect for now and move on to Glorious Illusion!” A circle of light appeared in one of Fang’s Monster Zones. Moments later, his Garoth rose up from the ground within the circle as a spirit. (1850/1300) “This Trap allows me to bring back one Lightsworn monster from my Graveyard. And it’s still the Battle Phase so I attack…,” Fang spun around one more time to point at his target, “Spellbreaker!”
“What the,” Andrei braced himself for impact as the shining spirit of the warrior dashed forward, the shining circle under him like a shadow. Spellbreaker raised her staff to defend herself, but it wasn’t enough as the spirit warrior passed right through it and her Duelist. Both of whom, clinched their stomachs, but Spellbreaker shattered just like the fox had, “Now why’d you do that?”
“Because now that your Spellbreaker is gone, I can now activate the magic of this card to transport us to the Realm of LIght.” Fang inserted the Field Spell card into a new slot that slid out on his duel disk. Suddenly, the coldness of the Ice Barrier landscape faded to make way for a lust paradise with ancient monuments and aqueducts. The sky was unusually clouded over for a place called the Realm of Light. “Now that we’re here, it’s you two who are the invaders!”
“Touché,” Bruno laughed at the joke that Fang had made.
Andrei was not nearly as amused, “Not a very bright move is it, wolfie.”
“Actually, it’s a bright idea that can only get brighter,” Fang howled to the moon, “As you know, when I enter my End Phase having Lightsworns forces me to Mill cards from my deck.” Fang carefully counted the cards as he discarded to the grave, “First my Monk Mills three cards,” after Fang placed them in the Graveyard, a beam of Light broke through the clouds. “Then my Garoth’s effect activates, I Mill two more, but I get to draw for each Lightsworn that is discarded.” As Fang discarded his second card he Howled again, “And now I just Milled one of my Wulf, Lightsworn Beast! He gets to join his allies on the field as I draw two cards.” Wulf leaped onto the field. The wolf headed warrior swung his long spear-like axe over his shoulder. (2100/300) He stood tall and strong as yet another ray of sunlight peaked through the clouds. “Remind you of anyone? Well, now I Mill two more cards, due to my Glorious Illusion.” Fang discarded as yet another ray of sunlight broke through the clouds. “By the by, whenever I Mill cards, the Realm of Light gets a little bit sunnier with a Shine Counter. I Milled three times so that means I now have three Shine Counters. And all of my Lightsworn gain x100 power boost for each counter to help protect their land.” Fang’s Warrior, Monk, and Beast each gained a shining boost respectively, (2150/1300) (1900/1000) (2400/300)
“Are you done yet,” Bruno was tapping the top card of his deck, ready to draw at any time.
“Not quite yet,” Fang placed a hand behind his head, “I kind of forgot that my Light Spiral was on the field. With it in play, my opponent must Mill one card each time that I Mill. So would you please Mill three cards?”
Andrei grumbled something to himself in Russian. Since he was the last person to play before Fang’s turn in this Tag Team Duel, that meant he had to Mill the three cards. When he saw what the third card was he actually ‘grinned’ to himself. Only Arctic could recognize that particular grin. He wondered what Bruno was planning.
“Is that all?”
“That’s all,” Fang crossed his arms and nodded once.
“Woo, I never realized that an End Phase could take this long to be over. I draw,” Bruno drew a new card. Right now, he was glad that Spellbreaker was destroyed last time. He needed to use this particular Spell, “I activate the Medallion of the Ice Barrier. It allows me to bring any Ice Barrier Monster straight to my hand. I choose Cryomancer and summon him right away.” A japanese man slid out of the card holding what appeared to be a round fan made entirely out of ice crystals.(1300/0) “And I activate my own Prior’s effect to Special Summon itself.” Again the sage walked his way onto the field in all his dignified glory. () With the appearance of the ice sage, Cryomancer waved his fan, causing all the monsters on Arctic and Fang’s side of the Field to freeze in place. “Now that I control another Ice Barrier, Cryomancer’s ability forbids any level 4 or higher monsters from attacking. However, I’ll set a couple of cards just in case.” Bruno placed his Frozen Soul and another trap in his disk. A pair of facedowns appeared in the spaces behind Bruno’s monsters, “and I end my turn.”
“My turn. Draw,” Arctic drew his card, “Activate Cold Wave!” A spell card that depicted dinosaurs frozen over by a sudden Ice Age apeared on the field. It blasted a cold storm at the Secret Guards. It froze over Andrei’s side of the field before moving on to Bruno’s.
“Well I-,” Bruno stopped as Andrei shot him a look. Bruno got the message loud and clear. Bruno allowed his Trap card to become frozen over like the rest of his Spell/Trap Card Zones
“Great job Arctic,” Fang shot Arctic a thumbs up, “Now they can’t activate any Spells or Traps until your next turn!”
“Thanks,” Arctic grunted, hoping that it really would be enough, “Summon Blizzard Warrior!” A blue knight leaped out onto the field, spinning his twin bladed sword. His armor seemed to be completely made out of many sheets of pure ice. (1400/400) “Blizzard Warrior attack with Blizzard Blade” Blizzard Warrior leaped high in the air spinning his sword like a helicopter before he fell down upon the Cryomancer. With his destruction, all of the frozen monster thawed out.
“Great job Arctic,” Fang howled loudly at the successful attack, “now your Snow Dragon can attack.”
Arctic still had one of his bad feelings tingling in his spine. He knew that meant trouble, but he had no idea what to prepare for. Andrei didn’t want his partner to activate his Trap for a reason, “I shift Snow Dragon to Defense mode and End.”
Bruno sighed with relief. If he had activated his Frozen Soul then it would have been wasted any way. But still, It couldn’t be activated until the bear man’s next turn (that is assuming that their Lifepoints remained 2000 points lower than the “intruding” furs.)
“Finally, it’s my turn,” Andrei drew his card, “I don’t believe this. We’re about to mop the floor with these two. I tribute Dewdark of the Ice Barrier in order to summon General Raiho of the Ice Barrior.” The ninja disappeared in a flash of light as a young japanese man dressed in blue rose to take his place. He tapped the fan he was holding on his chin before he spread it out in a combat pose. (2100/2300) “Next I use Prior’s effect to tribute itself and Special Summon an Ice Barrier from my Graveyard, I pick my General Gantala of the Ice Barrier!” Prior similarly disappeared in a flash of light as his body transformed itself into a powerful looking monk with a huge snowflake attached to his back. (2700/2000) “Now there are two Generals here to dispose of you. Raiho attacks your little LightSworn Monk.” The general closed his fan upon his lips before he reached down to draw his sword. He dashed forward to slash through the holy golden girl. Fang lifted his duel disk to shield himself from the aftershock of the General’s attack. This aftershock was not powerful, but he fell back on his tail.
“Fang,” Arctic knew that something was wrong. Fang wasn’t one to fall down from such a weak attack, even as a joke. Arctic examined his partner from where he was. Fang shakily stood back onto his feet as he huffed. Fang’s spirit had lowered significantly. He glanced over at Arctic. That look in his eyes only meant one thing: he was receiving real damage from these attacks.
“Next, General Gantala gets a swing at the bear man’s Blizzard Warrior,” Andrei signaled for the strong monk to leap forward and attack with his ice covered fist. Arctic’s Blizzard Warrior shattered before his eyes, but the aftershock didn’t phase him despite that the damage was significantly greater. Blinking Arctic turned to Fang, wondering what was going on. That’s when the two of them remembered that Andrei had his hands on Fang’s duel disk. He must have jacked up the Aftershock System some how when they weren’t paying attention.
“During my End Phase, Gantala’s ability can be activated, I can now Special Summon any other Ice Barrier monster from my Graveyard. Such as the third and strongest of the Ice Barrier Generals, Grunard!” Gantala used his ice covered fist to strike the ground between the two Generals. The ground split open and a thick mist of cold air burst forth from the crevice. The simmering and sparkling blue armored General Grunard rose from under the deep mist. The other two Generals kneeled down and before the final General as if he was the King of them even though they were all equals.
Fang turned to Arctic, they didn’t have to say it. They were thinking the same thing, “We’re in deep trouble…”

4000 Fang&Arctic :VS: Secret Guards 4000
4000 Fang&Arctic :VS: Secret Guards 2600
4000 Fang&Arctic :VS: Secret Guards 1850
