I haven't been drawing much because I moved to florida and I'm working two jobs, but I was cruisin the internet and came across some old Dean Yeagle pictures and it just clicked.
For so long now I've been trying to improve my stylization, I would see artists I liked and just couldn't imagine how I could get my process closer to theirs, how I could distill the style I've been building up which is honestly fairly anatomical, and therefore not keen on robust abstraction. But I saw Dean's work and it just clicked. I could see how my work could look like that, I saw the bridge to having the lighter toonier work I've been trying to get. This was the first sketch I popped out that night, nothing special, infact there are things I don't like, but it happened fast and it marks a good moment of realization for me.
So with this I'm hoping my speed starts picking up as well.
I'd like to think there's more things coming but if you've been watching me long enough you know that's bullshit.
