Say hello to Naria's version of the Screenshot Meme, Supernatural style.
2) Supernatural happens to be the first series I've grown a fondness for THIS many individual characters. In particular, I've grown to find Castiel, this prone-to-mistakes fallen angel who is still learning what it means to make his own decisions, to have emotions and to have regrets, he's grown to be my favorite. Not only my favorite of the Supernatural series as a whole but as one of my top ten favorite live-TV-show-characters. Following him up in the rankings are the Horseman Death, the king of hell Crowley, Dean Winchester, Bobby Singer, Gabriel (The Trickster), Ellen Harvelle, and Balthazar.
3) Why do I love them? Dean and Castiel, separate or as a pair have inspiring character traits I can't help but smile at. Dean is always struggling, fighting to convince his inner self that the good he has done out weighs the blood and death which follow in his wake. He's constantly shifting between hope, despair, grappling with options to ease his emotional distress, to find a reason to trucker forward, to find a reason to want to keep helping, to find a reason to believe in those close to him even when he's horrendously betrayed. He, along with Castiel battled against fate itself. As for Castiel? I'll admit, I am not a religious person, not by a long shot. Yet this angel is still my favorite. The way Castiel rebels against the corrupt leadership of Heaven, eradicates his brothers and sisters, all in the name of seeking out his Father and to protect his new-found friendship with the Winchester clan, especially Dean. The Winchesters get too adjusted to having a cosmically powerful being at their beck and call, at times the brothers abuse this graciousness but not once, does Castiel ever complain to them or say, "No." I've rambled enough about these two and still have lines left blank for my other favorites? Let's move down to part three.
4 & 5) Yeah, I hated a handful of characters. Lisa Braeden, season seven Meg, Lucifer, Adam, and Samuel Campbell. I'll try to type less this time, fit in a small opinion for all five of these characters. I found Lisa to be boring and too hypocritical. She never gave off the vibe of a lover for Dean but more like a convenient side story with meager bonding actually depicted between them. Next was season seven Meg, let her not be confused with the first Meg. This Meg is brought back into the story line (yet again) but this time as a character seeming to be seeking redemption and slowly worm her way in as a main / helpful character. As a villain, short chopped, bleach haired Meg was wonderful. Snide, sneaky, cruel, twisted and doing whatever she was told, she was a great example of a henchman (woman) from the dark side. It's awkward and forced to have all of this back peddle, trying to mold her into someone else entirely. To put it simply, she doesn't deserve an important slot in the team or as any sort of "friend" for the Winchesters. Not only because of her past actions but due to the nature of how Dean himself tends to treat monsters such as Meg. It undermines his character to even let her live. I felt Lucifer was not cruel enough for the lore of "The Devil". Adam was a disappointing third brother that seemed to materialize out of no where for the relevance of the story to only be quickly disposed of soon after. And Samuel? Well, he's just a flat out prick. It's hard not to hate the man.
6) For those of you who haven't noticed, I'm a major Destiel fangirl. In fact, the idea of Dean and Castiel paired together makes me ecstatically happy. The characters compliment one another and it's hard not to miss the hints dropped around as fan fodder in relation to bromance. It disappoints me to see Dean or Cas with anyone else but one another. I do not feel the sexual aspect of their relationship should be explored on the series but their distanced bond is enough to keep me full of awe. I favored the idea of Bobby and Ellen being with one another, the two seemed to suit each's gruff personalities. Plus, Bobby really seemed to need someone comforting in his life. Lastly, Ruby and Sam. Don't get me wrong, I hated Ruby, she was a douche bag wrapped in blonde temptation but out of all of Sam's woman affiliations, Ruby caught my attention and held it, especially how her demonic charm paired generously with Sam's increasing cold edge. Regardless, I'm glad Ruby is dead, I'd like to think she'll remain that way.
7) Being blunt for a change, I hate, and I do stand by that word, hate the pairing of Castiel and Meg. Not only does this version of Meg disappoint me to high heck but the idea of her with.... Cas? Of all characters? It makes my head spin with, "What were they thinking?" I'm also not partial to the combination of Dean and Sam together, or Wincest. Their bond has always been family oriented and there have never been any signs otherwise. I'd prefer them as close brothers or even mortal enemies but nothing other than that.
8) Oh the funnies, how can you not bask in the funnies? Crowley kissing Bobby Singer, Dean's constant antics, pranks, references and expressions, the "Bad Day at Black Rock" and "Changing Channels" (the cursed unlucky rabbit's foot and being stuck in the television universe through The Trickster's power) are two of the funniest episodes aired. I can't stop grinning when I see those scattered sibbling moments, examples like Sam snatching Dean a giant rainbow slinkey knowing how much his dorky elder brother wanted it. The funniest characters I'd list off being Gabriel, Crowley and Dean.
9) Oh the emotions, the crying, the buckets of tears you shed when viewing this series. I cried when Lucifer possessed Sam beat his fist into his brother's face over and over, you expect Dean to die at the hands of his own family. Sam makes up for his incapability to hold back Lucifer at the beginning, memories flash through his mind, memories of himself and his dear brother together. He's able to stop, to take momentary control to save Dean's life and save the world, falling into Hell's cage. I cried fountains when Bobby passed away, his last word "idgits" insulting his two adopted boys.
I also cried during the moments with Dean in the hospital, not so much due to Dean being at the brink of death but because of Sam and John Winchester's exchange of words during Dean's absence. Oblivious is Sam that their father has in fact, not summoned Azazel to dredge up revenge but to instead, sell his own soul to this demon. He eternally damned himself to the creature that killed his own wife, ruined his life, his children's childhood and he willingly sold his soul to Azazel in order to preserve Dean's life. It was.... So heart-crunching to witness. I cried when Sam died. I cried when Dean died. I cried when the both of them suffered from remnants of their visitations in hell.
Then there was Castiel, poor, poor Castiel... After eons of his existence never having to be expected to make any decisions... He's leaderless, he's forced into a war with his own family. He hardly has a chance at victory, he's full of pride, too much to ask the Winchester's for assistance and gives into Crowley's temptation of power. This monumental mistake leads to a terrible series of events that would alter Castiel horribly. It broke my heart on so many occasions, I'm even having difficulty watching the end of season seven because of how Castiel is acting. He isn't.... Himself anymore. I don't want his relationship with Dean to be ruined permanently. And I want, even less, for Castiel to become his "future self", popping pills and spouting empty nonsense, nothing to care about anymore, so non-violent he won't even protect those close him. No, heart breaking would be an understatement.
10) I adored Castiel's entrance into the show on a massive degree. The way the lights shattered around him, sparks fizzling, the way he stood in front of the rune painted barn, spread his wings, more sure of his own power than I'd ever seem him. One of my favorite scenes, one of which I believe will always be my lasting favorite, is the entrance of the fourth Horseman, Death. The sheer over-powering intimidating this man exudes dapples me with goosebumps. It even leaves Dean scattering with panic, Death himself being the only character Dean's snarkey mouth doesn't slap around. The actor chosen for both roles, Castiel and Death were wonderful, I highly approve. They both have a way of portraying their characters that seems almost other wordly.
