The second movement has arrived! Intended as a break between awesome fast movements, this movement I have dubbed a bagatelle due to its light character. It's in five part rondo form, which means the structure follows an A B A' C A'' pattern.
For this piece, I wanted to make something more traditionally classical, but with the added twist that the whole piece is in 5/8. We find some lovely counterpoint in all of the sections, particularly the B section. In the C section, in order that the happy sound doesn't get too boring, we slow down to a solemn section in minor before finishing up with the third iteration of the theme A.
No previous sonata cameos in this one, so two will come in the last movement. When you hear all three movements together, I think you will agree this is a welcome relief from the intensity of the first, and it sets the stage nicely for the third. I hope you enjoy it!
