This is a pic from my friend Ryan's wake/funeral.
Our D&D group decided that a way to keep Ryan with us while we play in the future was to swap out one of our dice for one of his dice and then have the new set of dice buried with him.
He kept his D20, but every other dice of his set was replaced by one from the rest of us from our sets. This way, when we play again, he's still playing along with us and he's buried with a piece of each of us as well.
I just really enjoy this picture and wanted to throw it up on here.

*hugs back* Yea I have my dice currently sitting on my desk, and I can see his D12 that I replaced with mine clearly. My set is the cream marble colored ones(the one marked with an 11 in the image if you don't know dice x3) and his are a red, green, and black swirl so it stands out like a sore thumb.
wow, with me being a pretty hardcore table top gamer, i saw this, read your little description, and well. damn, brought a tear to my eyes ;w;
this probably one of the sweetest thing i've seen/hear someone do for a loved one.
may he rest in piece and always roll the best of the best :)
<3 nerds to the end <3

I think that is a wonderful idea. Your friend will always be with you, but it's often nice to have a physical reminder. And he will have something to keep of your's, too. It's very touching. Being a tabletop-gamer, myself, this really struck a cord with me.
My thoughts are with you and your's, dear.
