"fur brush" experiment

So I was like "WAHHHH WHY I CANT DRAW FUR" and so I decided I would find an online tutorial on fur. Found a couple of them, and made a rather nice "furry" brush. This will make digital painting commissions a little easier. And fluffier.

I did something like this with abuse of the smudge tool. Shame it doesn't look as crisp. Is that a PS brush? What tutorial did you use?

It's Corel Painter, with a heavily modified "Opaque Round" Oil brush.

The key to using an automated brush for fur is probably to use it in moderation.

I dunno, full res it looks reeeeally "photoshop-y". 8T It looks a lot better scaled down in the thumbnail, though, so maybe this would only be really effective if you're painting at a very high resolution, then resize it down?

Well, it is a plain blue background, and a perfectly round shape. Will probably look better on an actual painting.

Reminds me of when I needed sparks for something, without using any brushes
I can't remember how I did it, but it looked nice

I say don't draw fur, I think the classic cartoon like style you got is something this site barely gets.

You mentioned you were using Corel Painter, what tutorial did you use? And which version do you have? I own Essentials 4 I can never get colors down though e.e

Corel Painter 12, and I forget which tutorial. But don't get too excited. I have yet to use it in an actual painting.
