SHARKWEEK: Bramble Shark
Shark no. 2 for devpolarkeet's sharkweeksketchjam, the BRAMBLE SHARK.
The bramble shark is a very interesting and elusive fellow! Sharks have a sandpaper-like texture due to being covered in dermal denticles --flexible, collagenous tooth-like scales that reduce water resistance-- and the bramble shark is no different. Only this species takes it to the EXTREME and has protruding thorn-like denticles scattered all over its flabby, slimy body.
My interpretation is highly exaggerated, but after I read about it I kind of envisioned it almost like a Pokemon, haha.
---
SHARKS ARE IN TROUBLE. They've roamed our oceans for more than 400 million years, but now shark populations face extinction globally. It is estimated that 73 million sharks are killed every year due to commercial and recreational fishing. Check out SHARK SAVERS to see how you can help.
