This painting was done with watercolor on Arches coldpress. Originally I was going to use colored pencils as well, but then remembered that the texture of coldpress wasn't likely to create the feeling I wanted, so I stuck with the watercolor. Regarding the composition- those of you who know your art history may recognize Hans Fredrik Dahl. I 'borrowed' some from him as a tip of the hat so to speak. Since he was a Norwegian born landscape painter!

I don't think I can compliment this enough. When I gave the general description to you, I was hoping you'd be able to fill in the gaps that were in my own head about how I wanted it to look. When you sent the first sketch, my very first thought was, 'Yup, that's exactly what I wanted even though I didn't really know it.' The pose, the expressions, the background; everything is exactly what I didn't fully realize I wanted.
So how do you do this magic thing you do, eh?
