P2: Rocky and a Hard Place
We remeet our heros in well… Hero City. The section of the Duel World that focuses it’s design on the technological aspects of dueling and of course the legendary Elemental Heroes. Still, it was a nerd’s paradise. It had testing areas for the latest Duel Disks, levitating elevators, robot assists (and that was just the main hub area). Rocky and Marshal are just getting off of the Monorail system that had taken them there and were now wondering the streets of the futuristic city.
“Look at that,” Rocky pointed at the flying cars among floating robots, Machine Duel Monsters, other forms of future technology that hasn’t been invented as of yet, “can we ride in one of those?”
“The pamphlet says that they’re just holograms,” Marshal was a little disappointed, “but there’s a few rides here that are based off of them. Hey, there’s even a few Duel Runner tracks for people that are into that.”
“How about we go in there,” Rocky pointed to one store in particular. Out of all the places, it was a jewelry shop called, Pot of Avarice. No, seriously. You didn’t think that a hyper-advanced technological place like Duel World’s Hero City wouldn’t have one of those? The store sign had the spell card’s pot spewing out the name in the form of glass gems. As if it was a joke, they also had a glass model of an Avarice Pot displayed in one window’s center piece. However, the window also displayed jewels, little glass figurines and replicas of Duel Monster accessories. The other window displayed more accessories, but it’s center focus were three bedazzled duel disks that were based upon the two main gemstone based archetypes and one for the fun of it.
“Okay, why?”
“Souvenirs,” Rocky shrugged, “I wonder if they’ll have something Mama would like.”
“Well, I guess that it would be best to get it out of the way first,” Marshal thought about getting his own mother something, maybe Trina something too.
Upon entering the store, they were greeted by the owner who was dressed up as Destiny Hero- Diamond Dude. Within the store were all kinds Gem-knight monsters for employees and Duel monster figurines. Marshal looked over a large Gem-elephant and a Crystal Beast Emerald Tortoise. Rocky took his business to the back of the store where an Elemental Hero Prisma was examining some jewels.
“That one’s pretty,” Rocky admired the Dark Pendent that Prisma was examining.
“Yes. Yes, it is,” Prisma set the necklace back in it’s case, “but it’s much too expensive for someone of your age to afford. We have some nice replicas closer to the front.”
“Actually, I was wondering if you could look at something that I found,” Rocky held up a different pendent. This one was in the shape of a droplet, swirling black and violet inside.
“Holy E-Hero The Shinning,” Prisma immediately took the jewel, “what is that?”
“How am I supposed to know,” Rocky crossed his arms, “I’m too young, remember?”
“Oh, right sorry about that,” Prisma put back on his special bifocals, “I’ve never seen anything like this. Where did you get this?”
“Maybe at this angle. No…,” Prisma didn’t let Rocky have the chance to answer before he moved on to another examining tool, “Remarkable! The outside is pure uncut crystal and yet this mist is somehow trapped within. It’s almost like magic.”
“If it’s magic, then maybe I should keep it,” Rocky reached to retrieve the jewel, but his hand was smacked, “hey, it’s mine. Give it back.”
“This crystal is a scientific discovery that must be explored more,” Prisma continued to examine it.
“Okay then,” Rocky crossed his arms for a moment, “then how about we duel for it. You win then you can have it. No fuss with your boss for just taking it.”
“Sounds like a reasonable thing to do,” Prisma thought about it, “but what if you win? It wouldn’t be fair if you’re the only one with something to lose.”
“Honestly, I just want the crystal, but…,” Rocky turned to look at his friend who was examining the display cases, “how about you let my friend have whatever he buys at a discount?”
“Now that’s a fair deal,” Prisma stood up from his work bench picking up a Crystal Beast-style Duel Disk. He went off to the front of the store to tell his boss what was happening.
“Attention customers, a challenge has been issued to one of my fellow Heros,” Diamond Dude stated on the intercom, “if you wish to watch the duel we’ll have it displayed on the center screen, however, I must ask that none of you leave the Pot of Avarice until the duel has concluded.”
Rocky could only imagine Marshal’s surprise to see him on the screens of the store. Only the participants were allowed in the Crystal Dueling field, located behind the store. The shop itself was locked to prevent any thieves from robbing the store behind their backs.
“My pride as Elemental Hero Prisma has been threatened by this young man,” Prism pointed at the rottweiler, “I will prevail and protect the pride of Pot of Avarice.”
“So… I’m playing the villain here,” Rocky frowned, “Not cool…”
“Let’s have fun with this,” Prisma readied his Duel Disk, “and make it a good show for everyone.”
“Okay, but is it alright if I use a Holodisk and Deck?”
“I don’t understand. What’s a Holodisk?”
“It’s this amazing device that my friend invented,” the Rottweiler raised his watch and attached a Deck Cell onto it. The Holodisk stated, “‘Courageous Retribution’ Deck Loaded.”
“If it’s what you prefer,” Prisma struck a pose, “then come at me!”
“If that means ‘yes ‘and I get the first move then,” Rocky placed his hand on the side of his watch, where a small wheel was attached, “Holodisk, Accelerate!” Rocky quickly spun the disk to activate his duel disk. The cell’s face slid out and a hologram of a duel disk materialized on Rocky’s arm. One wouldn’t even be able tell that it was a fake by looking at it. Even the cards were holographic as they shuffled in his duel disk.
“I draw five plus one more,” Rocky slid his hands over the face of his deck for the amount that he was going to draw, the cards floated in front of him like large shields.
“That is quite a system that you’ve got there,” Prisma was impressed.
“I love it too,” Rocky’s tail wagged happily, “It’s light weight and it helps prevent my cards from being damaged. Although… most people think that I cheat when I use it.”
“Duel World wouldn’t allow a connection to your disk if they suspected that it could be used for such a thing.”
Rocky selected his card by pressing it and tapping the proper place on the holographic disk, “I’ll start off with one of my favorites Marauding Captain!” The blond headed warrior leaped out onto the field wielding his twin swords. (1200 ATK) “And you know what that means, I get to special summon a monster from my hand, I pick Tuned Magician!” The green masked sorcerer leaped onto the field. His costume looked like it was based off of a white lily. (1800 ATK) “That’s it all I’m going to do.”
“Interesting move,” Prism pulled the card from his deck, “I’ll set one card Facedown and Summon Crystal Beast Amber Mammoth!” A giant orange crystal rose up from the ground, shattering to reveal the purple mammoth with an amber jewel embedded in his forehead. (1700 ATK) “Now I’ll equip him with Crystal Release to give him a 800 point boost!” The crystal on his mammoth lit up as the Mammoth called out before he began his charge. (2400 ATK) “Attack Marauding Captain with Amber Charge!” Amber Mammoth swung his giant trunk to smash through the Captain.
“So now it’s my turn, right?” Rocky drew his card, “I play Dark Valkyria!” The dark angel descended onto the field (1800ATK). Prisma would have laughed if Rocky hadn’t selected his next card of a little puffball going through a ring, “I also play Natural Tune! This card allows one of my normal monsters to become a Tuner for the remainder of the turn.”
“But you don’t have any…,” Prisma paused when Tuned Magician developed a ring just like the one depicted on the card.
“Shows what you know,” Rocky smiled, “My Gemini Monsters are kind of slow starters. They have to be summoned twice before they become Effect Monsters. So now, let’s go Synchro!” The two monsters leaped into the air as Tuned Magian burst into four rings, Dark Valkrie turned into four stars, “the giant that lies dormant, collecting his power, the time to release it has come! Awaken Black Brutdrago!” In a burst of fire and lightning the black dragon appeared and roared like thunder. The wings on his back flapped twice before he landed. The metal binding clanked as it landed on the ground on its unusually small legs. (3000 ATK)
“You’re certain that you don’t like playing the villain,” Prisma stepped back.
“Not really,” Rocky shrugged before he put on his serious face, “but that doesn’t mean that I should hold back. I use Black Brutdrago’s ability to discard a Gemini monster from my hand to destroy a spell or trap card on your side of the field. I pick your Facedown.”
“In that case, I’ll activate it,” Prisma’s Facedown rose up, showing a lounge chair on the moon, “Last Resort allows me to bring Ancient City- Rainbow Ruins from the deck to the field.” An ancient coliseum rose from the ground and surrounded the two duelists, the skies above became filled the biggest rainbow ever seen. “While we’re here depending on how many Crystal Beast crystals I have, then I can activate certain abilities. But more of that as the duel goes on.
“Oh well, I still have the stronger monster. Black Brutdrago attack with Thunderfire Eruption!” Black Brutdrago opened his mouth and let loose a fireball shrouded in electricity. Amber Mammoth reverted to its crystal form.
“Sorry, but when a Crystal Beast is destroyed then they move themselves to the Spell and Trap card zones,” Prisma moved a card from his deck as he continued, “Plus when Crystal Release is sent to the Grave then I get to select on Crystal Beast and play it as a Continuous Spell.” A large Red Ruby appeared on Prisma’s side of the field.
“I’ll have to end my turn.”
“It’s now my move,” Prisma drew his card, “but for now I play Graceful Charity to draw three and discard two. Now I summon Crystal Beast Sapphire Pegasus.” A blue crystal appeared on the field before shattering for a flying unicorn with sapphires loaded in his wings. Behind him another gem appeared, this one golden. “Sapphire allows me to place yet another Crystal Beast onto my side of the field. I also play two Facedowns and end my turn.” Two cards appeared in Prisms remaining spaces.
“Two more Facedowns… Draw,” Rocky drew his card.
“And I activate Crystal Raigeki,” one of Prisma’s Facedowns lifted as his Amber Crystal exploded in a flash of lightning towards the sky. The electricity shot back down to consume and shatter the rottie’s dragon
“What the heck? There’s not even a cloud in the sky,” Rocky frowned as he continued, “oh well, when Black Brutdrago is destroyed then I get to Summon a full fledged Gemini monster from the Graveyard.” Dark Valkryia rose from the ashes of Black Brutdrago with her chest emblem shinning with a power boost (2100 ATK). “Dark Valkryia gains a Spell Counter when she’s Gemini Summoned that gives her two abilities. The first is the temporary power boost. The second is the ability to sacrifice her Spell Counter in order to destroy one monster on the field.” Dark Valkryia focused on the Spell Counter around her neck, before firing it straight toward Sapphire Pegasus. Sapphire rose to his feet before he was shattered into his Crystal form. “Next I Attack you directly!” Dark Valkryia raised a hand up to summon a dark orb of lighting and fired at Prisma. Two of Prisma’s crystals lit up as before the attack shrunk in size.
“Too bad! Thanks to my Rainbow Ruins,” Prisma posed for the camera, “so long as I have at least two Crystal Beast crystals then I can cut the damage I receive from one of your attack’s in half.”
“It’s okay,” Rocky smiled trying to hide the fact that he didn’t have any plans for if that Rainbow Dragon reaches the field. At least not yet…, “cause I’m still winning. I play one Facedown and End.”
“That’s a very unusual attitude you’ve got there young man,” Prisma noted as he activated his card, “however, before you end, I’m going to activate Gem Flash Energy.” His Continuous Trap was depicting a crystal filled wall. Right after Prisma drew his card, his three crystals flashed brightly as they fired a trio of lights at Rocky.
“During my standby phase, you’ll lose 300 lifepoints for every Crystal that I have. I’ll have to play Rare Value,” Prisma signaled for his Topaz and Sapphire to shatter, “by tributing two of my crystals I get to draw two cards. Now before you think that you’re safe from my Crystals, then I’ll activate Crystal Blessings to bring the two crystals back from the Graveyard.” The sapphire and the topaz returned, shinning just as bright as ever. “I’ll summon Dweller of the Depths.” Instead of a monster, the card itself floated on the field. Inside of the picture of a flooded cave a dark figure swam around unseen by anyone. (1500 ATK) “Dweller gains a 300 point boost for each Continuous Spell that I control making it to 2400, so now I attack your Valkryia!” Dweller’s card began sucking like a giant wind tunnel. Valkryia tried to resist being pulled in, but it was useless as she was pulled into the card and under the water to be devoured by the unseen beast.
“Now that’s just frightening,” Rocky shivered, “Nothing is more frightening than an unopened door.”
“Alfred Hitchcock,” Prisma crossed his arms, “but my Dweler’s a little different from an unopened door.”
“I guess you’re right, I draw,” Rocky smiled at the card he drew, he played it immediately, “I play my Evocator Chevalier!” A flaming knight stepped out to the field. (1900 ATK) “Unfortunately, he’s not staying, well, sort of… I can still Special Turret Warrior.” Chevalier burst into flames as he was surrounded by a stone armor. The armor formed into a giant golem of a monster landed on the field. The golem looked more like a fortress than a warrior. (1200 ATK)
“You should have kept your flaming warrior,” Prisma shrugged mockingly, “at least he could block more”
“Aren’t you tired of being wrong yet,” Rocky tilted his head, “Torrent Warrior can be Special Summoned by tributing a Warrior monster for a reason. He gains the Tributed Warrior’s strength.” Torrent Warrior’s attack power rose as his cannons lit on fire like torches. (3100 ATK) “Attack Dweller with Burring Cannonfire!” Torrent Warrior attacked without hesitation Dweller’s card burst into flames before shattering.
“I still cut the damage dealt to me in half, so if that’s all you’ve got,” Prisma asked, Rocky nodded with those puppy dog eyes, “Please don’t make me feel worse than this has to be. I’m an Elemental Hero after all.” Prisma quickly drew his card as his three crystals fired the primary colors at Rocky again, “almost forgot about my Gem Flash Energy didn’t you.”
“I didn’t forget,” Rocky shook off the power that struck at him, “it surprised me is all.”
“Well, it ends here,” Prisma revealed the card he drew, “I play Crystal Beast Emerald Tortoise!” A giant emerald appeared on the field, but it shattered and the green crystal tortoise dropped to the ground. (600 ATK)
“I would ask, but I can only assume that the other card in you hand is-”
“That’s right,” Prisma the last card in his hand, “the one and only Rainbow Dragon and since I discarded the other two Crystal Beasts to my Graveyard with Graceful Charity, then it makes the grand total of seven Crystal Beasts. So I can Special Summon this majestic monster to the field.” The three crystals and Emerald Tortoise, and three more lights in the Graveyard lit up and swirled their way into the sky. They combined into the sky into a bright white light. This new light sprouted wings as the Rainbow Dragon materialized into the it’s complete glory. The seven jewels on it’s sides shined brightly as the dragon roared. (4000 ATK)
“Pretty dragon,” Rocky giggled at the monster.
“You’re not afraid,” Prisma paused as he looked a the pup, “five seconds ago you were nearly wetting yourself about my Dweller in the Depths.”
“Yeah, but at least I can see him,” Rocky crossed his arms as he tilted his head, “gotta say, not as frightening as I thought it’d be.”
“Maybe you’ll be more frightened when you see what his Rainbow Refraction.” Rainbow Dragon lifted his head as he released his multicolored attack. But Rocky shouted in response, “I activate ScrapIron Scarecrow! This card lets be block one attack per turn!”
“Not if I activate Rainbow Ruin’s 3+ crystal effect,” Prisma signaled for his Topaz to be sent to the Graveyard again, “by tributing one Crystal I can negate the activation of a Spell or Trap card and destroy it.” The scarecrow shattered into a hundred pieces under the pressure of the rainbow attack. Torrent Warrior followed shortly after.
“Great…,” Rocky said to himself, “now I’m getting my butt handed to me by a freaking rainbow.”
“That’s not all,” Prism signaled for his tortoise to attack next. The tortoise retreated back into his shell as he spun his way past Rocky’s empty field.
“Emerald Tortoise ability activates now,” Prisma shifted his overgrown turtle to defense mode (2000 DEF), “And I’ll end by telling you something. Now that my turn is over, I can activate his abilities at any time. The first of which I use on your turn. By sending Crystal Beasts to the Graveyard, like my Emerald Tortoise, I can increase his attack power by 1000 points for each one.”
“I’ve got it,” Rocky said as he drew his next card, “I’m putting my faith in my deck now, I play Pot of Avarice. Now I return five of my monsters back to the deck to draw two new cards.” Rocky did so quickly and drew two cards he knew would be helpful, “I knew you guys wouldn’t abandon me.”
“Are you talking to your cards?”
“I remove from play one Spell in my Graveyard to Special Summon Chell’s personal favorite monster Spell Striker!” A little toy viking warrior landed on the field waving a magic wand of his as if it was truly magical.
“No, she’s my cousin,” Rocky lied. She was actually one of his younger sisters In fact, his entire litter of siblings lived with a different relative than he did, but that’s another long story that isn’t relevant right now, except for the fact he played his brother’s favorite card. “I also play cousin Jack’s Armor Breaker.” Another toy warrior jumped onto the field. This one was a samurai with a giant hammer attached to his head. (800 ATK)
“Another cousin of yours,” Prisma smiled at Rocky’s enthusiasm of using cards his family gave him, Rocky nodded happily.
“Now for one of my favorite combos. I equip Spell Striker with Armor Breaker,” Breaker leaped up and transformed into a large hammer for Spell Striker to grab hold of, “and I attack with Spell Striker.”
“You’re kidding me,” Prisma put crystal hand to his forehead, “I’m going to regret saying that, aren’t I?”
Spell Striker zipped his way past Prisma’s monsters and zapped him with his little magic wand. Of course, his remaining Crystals cut the damage in half, but damaging Prisma that wasn’t Rocky’s goal.
“See Spell Striker can-”
“Attack me Directly,” Prisma finished Rocky’s sentence, “I know… now.”
“Yeah, AND I take no battle damage from when he does battle with an opponent’s monster.”
“I figured as much,” Prisma sighed to himself.
“You’re catching on now,” Rocky lifted a paw in the air, “Plus when a monster equipped with Armor Breaker deals damage to your Lifepoints then I’m allowed to destroy one card you control, like Rainbow Dragon!” As soon as Spell Striker landed back in Rocky’s field, Rainbow Dragon shattered in a burst of white light. Spell Striker pulled his non-existent eyelid down and stuck out his tongue. “And now I end.”
“I certainly didn’t see that coming,” Prisma asked before drawing his card and having his two crystals zap the poor pup with 600 points of damage.
“It’s all cool,” Rocky tried to look tough by pounding his chest with his right hand, “mama didn’t name me Rocky just because I’m rock headed.”
“I can think of some names she should have used, but first…,” Prisma paused as he looked at his hand, “Well, I guess I’ll summon myself to the field.” A second Prisma appeared on the field this one much more confident than the duelist himself. (1700 ATK) “I’ll switch my Emerald Tortoise to attack mode and have him and myself attack your little warrior,” Prisma signaled for the two of them to attack together in a pair of shinning tornadoes that ripped apart at Spell Striker, but only his hammer shattered. Rocky felt a little crushed about how overkill it was. Still, he didn’t lose any Lifepoints because of it.
“I’ll end after shifting Emerald Tortoise into Defense mode.” (2000 DEF)
“Then it’s my turn again,” Rocky pulled the top card of his deck, “I play Swing of Memories.” The Spell card that showed a little girl standing by a tree swing looking out to the sunset flipped itself around. “This card lets me bring back one of the Normal Monsters in my Graveyard. In this case, one of the Gemini that are left in my Graveyard, Blazewing Butterfly!” A burning butterfly arose like a phoenix from the ashes. It landed softly on the ground. (1500 ATK) “I’ll now Gemini Summon it.” Blazewing Butterfly’s flames intensified into a bright orange. “I’m now able to tribute Blazewing Butterfly in order Special another Gemini that was left in my Graveyard into it’s full fledge glory.” Blazewing Butterfly spun around into a flaming tornado. The flames disbursed and the flaming knight was now standing in Blazewing’s place (1900 ATK), “Welcome back Evocator Chevalier! Attack Prisma!”
Chevalier charged with his blazing swords to slash through and shatter the monster Prisma to pieces. The duelist shook at the sight of seeing himself being destroyed. He almost didn’t notice that Spell Striker attacked him directly until it was about to happen. Still he managed to cut the damage in half again.
“You’re certain that you don’t like playing the villain?”
“Why do you keep asking that,” Rocky pouted.
“Because you’re very good at it,” Prisma drew his next card, “And you lose 600 more points.” Prisma’s Crystals zapped Rocky.
“I’ll have to end with what I’ve got,” Prisma crossed his arms, “Four more turns and you’ll lose due to my Gem Flash Energy.”
“I’m not going to let that happen either,” Rocky drew, “especially now that I don’t have to worry about your ace monster.”
“Whoever said that I used my ace?”
Rocky didn’t like the sound of that, but he didn’t have time to worry about it. “I Summon Stygian Security!” A little bat demon flapped it’s way onto the field, the siren on his head was flashing as he swung around a megaphone and a demonic baton. “Now let’s Go Synchro!” The bat burst into a single green ring. Evocator Chevalier faded away into four stars, “Enforce the law, Stygian Sergeants!” A double headed dragonoid riding a four-eyed motorcycle raced its way to Rocky’s side of the field. (2200 ATK)
“Seriously…”
“Yes, I don’t like playing the villain…,” Rocky whined, stomping his foot once, “And my Sergeants will now destroy your Defense Monster with Double Header Enforcer!” Rocky’s new Monster did a wheelie before charging at Emerald Tortoise. He pulled out a double barreled pistol out and fired at the Tortoise. He tried to hid in his shell, but the blasts destroyed him. Stygian Sergeants rode past the dust that Emerald Tortoise left behind. A giant emerald appeared on Prisma’s side of the field after the Fiend passed.
“And don’t think that I Summoned my Monster just because he had a higher attack strength. When he destroys a monster in battle then he gets another shot to attack with a 800 point boost.” The Seargents made as sharp U-Turn as he fired his shots at Prisma’s feet. Still, Prisma was prepared thanks to the Rainbow Ruins.
“I’ll end with that,” Rocky said before his demonic biker came to a complete stop.
“Don’t think this means you’re going to make a decent comeback pup,” Prisma drew his card once more and let his Crystals do the rest.
“I now activate my own Pot of Avarice! I’ll return three of my Crystal Beasts, myself and… Rainbow Dragon.”
“What are you…,” Rocky had worked on a Duel Puzzle like this before, “oh no…”
“Seems like you finally figured it out.” Prisma said as he drew two more cards, “As luck would have it, I have two of the pieces that I need, but I need one more card to complete this puzzle. Although, I can’t leave myself defenseless, so I’ll activate Crystal Promise.” The spell card showed the damaged ruby glowing in a red light. “This card allows me to summon any Crystal Beast back from their Crystal Form and I choose Ruby Carbuncle.” The ruby shattered to reform itself into a small creature that reminded Rocky of an Espeon with a red jewel attached to his tail. (300 DEF) The gem on Ruby’s tail flashed in a red light and Sapphire Pegasus (1200 DEF) returned to the field as well, followed by a violet crystal (Amethyst Cat) to take his place. “When Ruby is Special Summoned then I get to turn all Crystal Beasts back into Beasts, Plus you already know Sapphire’s ability. I now have two monsters to defend me from your attacks. I play a Facedown and end my turn.”
“I draw…,” Rocky drew one. Still, Rocky smiled as he set the card down in his spell and trap zone, “Now I attack your Pegasus with Double Header Enforcement!”
“Thank you,” Prisma snapped his fingers, his Trap card revealed itself, “Rainbow Path! By sending my Amethyst Gem to the Graveyard, then I can negate your attack and bring Rainbow Dragon to my hand.” Prisma’s Gem shattered to summon Amethyst Cat to the field to defend her teammates from damage. She then shattered and was sent to the Graveyard herself. Prisma then added the last puzzle piece to his hand.
“I end,” Rocky growled before he flinched.
“I draw…,” Prisma paused at Rocky flinching, “what are you doing? Gem Flash Energy doesn’t deal any damage because I don’t have any Gems.”
“Sorry,” Rocky straightened back up, “Force of habit…”
“Lack of damaging effects aside, I’ll re-summon myself,” Prisma’s duplicate appeared again (1700 ATK) Prisma pointed to the him on the field, “I activate my own ability to turn select a Fusion Monster in the Extra Deck, then I can discard a Material listed on that card from my deck. I choose my Rainbow Neos to discard Elemental Hero Neos and then my Elemental Hero Prisma’s name becomes ‘ Elemental Hero Neos’.” The Prisma on the field glowed as he transformed into the image of the powerful alien hero. (1700 ATK) “Finally, I use Polymerization to combine ‘Neos’ with the Rainbow Dragon in my hand in order to Fusion Summon…” Rainbow Dragon teleported his way onto the field, before he and the Elemental Hero began to swirl together. A new white and gold giant appeared shining like an angel. His crystal wings didn’t need to flap as he landed a few feet off the ground behind Prisma. (4500 ATK)
“Rainbow Neos…,” Rocky was amazed more than he was afraid of this monster. He’s never had to face such a giant of a monster before.
“I’ll now switch Ruby and Pegasus into attack mode,” Prisma looked up at Rocky, “Sorry to do this to you, but I can’t afford to lose.”
“It figures that a person who works in a jewelry store needs a powerful deck.”
“You’ve got that right pup. Rainbow Neos has three powerful abilities,” Prisma raised just as many fingers, “once per turn, I can either return your monsters, your spell & traps, or graveyard back into your deck.”
“So which will it be,” Rocky raised his Holodisk, prepared for whatever comes his way.
“You sure are a brave little pup. I’ll Tribute my trap card to return all Spells and Traps to your deck,” Prisma pointed high upwards. A great wind blow down from the sky. Rocky, however, was waiting for this.
“I Chain my Curse of Anubis with your Rainbow Neo’s effect,” Rocky’s trap depicted the image of an alter built to honor the Egyptian god. Red electricity shrouded all monsters on the field. The two Crystal Beasts and Stygian Sergeants fell limp in their places. Rainbow Neos was forced to support his own weight on one knee. Prisma almost had to dodge his titan of a monster’s fall, “This card forces all Effect Monsters into Defense Mode and then drains them of all their defensive power.”
“That’s quite a card,” Prisma nodded his head, “You’re luck sure is amazing. I can see why people would think you’re cheating.”
“Says the person who managed to draw the same Rainbow Dragon twice and managed to summon Rainbow Neos in the same duel.”
“Now let’s see how you’ll win without losing your last fraction of Lifepoints.”
“Okay,” Rocky drew his next card, “I Summon Comrade Swordsman of Landstar!” A mini alien-like elf warrior landed on the field. (500 ATK) Comrade Swordsman of Landstar’s ability raised it even further (900 ATK). Rocky paused to see if Prisma had any objections, “So now I’ll Tune my Swordsman of Landstar with my Stygian Sergeants. Let’s go Synchro once more!” Swordsman leaped into the air and turned into three green rings. Stygian Sergeants felt his strength return as he drove his way through the rings before shattering into five new stars. “The strongest of warriors fights for his fallen comrades! Stretch to the heavens, Colossal Fighter!” In a flash of light a new giant fell from the sky. His skin was entirely white save for six blue gems and his green visors. (2800 ATK) Despite he dwarfed in comparison to Rainbow Neos (even in Neo’s weakened state), the monster standing next to his duelist reminded Prisma of David and Goliath if they were on the same team, “Colossal Fighter ability’s automatically kicks in. His attack power raises by 100 points for every Warrior in my Graveyard, not that he needs it.” (3200 ATK) “Go on and attack Rainbow Neos with Ultimate Combat!” Rocky’s Fighter smashed his fists together before leaping up into the air with a both fists glowing. He spun around once before landing his blow on Rainbow Neos’ forehead. The truly colossal monster shattered like a broken mirror as Rocky’s fighter left a crater when he landed. Rocky’s monster walked his way back to his side of the field before Prisma decided to continue.
“I appreciate that you didn’t destroy my ace card with your Swordsman of Landstar,” Prisma drew his next card.
“Yeah, but it’s not over yet,” Rocky put his paws behind his head as he smiled.
“But this ends now,” Prisma revealed a card in his hand it looked like a mechanical space satellite with a single glass eye and metal teeth, “This is a monster called Cyber Jar. When it’s Flip Summoned it destroys all monsters on the field and then…”
“I know what it does, but it’s a big gamble for both of us.”
“That’s true,” Prisma Set the monster down, “but I have the Lifepoints to spare even if it goes badly for me. I’m willing to bet that your luck wont last forever.”
“I get it. You want to see if I can pull a miracle right now. Well,” Rocky drew his card, “looks like we’ll get to test your theory. I equip Colossal Fighter with Big Bang Shot!” A rocket gauntlet formed around Colossal Fighter’s right arm. (3600 ATK) “This Spell not only gives Colossal Fighter another 400 point boost, but he now possesses the Pierce Ability!”
“And my monsters have Zero defensive power, so it would be the same as a Direct Attack,” Prisma sighed to himself, “There’s no point in attacking. I submit to your luck.”
Back inside the store…
“That was quite a duel young man,” Prisma shook the Rottweiler’s paw, holding out the pendant, “As promised I’ll return the jewel and give your friend a discount on his purchase.”
“Thanks,” Rocky took the pendant and quickly put it away, “it was a really fun duel.”
“So how much of a discount did I get anyway,” Marshal asked.
“For our usual Special Events Duels: the percentage is determined is by the percentage of Lifepoints that you have left when you win.” Diamond Dude calculated it on his portable, “Rocky was left with 1700 Lifepoints so you get a discount of 21.25%.”
“Over twenty percent!?! Are you serious,” Marshal’s tail poofed out at the news, “I would have dueled you myself if I knew that.”
“Yes, but it usually for one of our Special Events,” Diamond Dude looked at Prisma for a moment, “and this is the first time that Prisma has ever lost with more than 5%.”
“Who would have thought that I could have lost to such a mismatched deck,” Prisma laughed to himself.
“Let’s duel again sometime, just for the fun of it,” Rocky wagged his tail, “Maybe I’ll even get to use my Ace Monster.”
“Yeah, it certainly sounds like fu……,” Prisma finally processed what the rottweiler had said, “your Ace wasn’t Colossal Fighter or Black Brutdrago?”
“Nope,” Rocky smiled.
“He’s not joking,” Marshal put a hand to his head.
“Well, considering your deck’s structure,” Prisma grinned wide at the pun he was about to make, “your ace must feel like a diamond in the rough.”
“You may make your final checkout over here when you’re done,” Diamond Dude led Marshal away. Prisma grabbed hold of Rocky’s shoulder.
“Now hold on,” Prisma let the pup turn around, “you know how they say you can know someone better by dueling them, then when you talk to them right?”
“Yeah?”
“You can probably tell that the deck I used wasn’t my real deck then.”
“Maybe…,” Rocky didn’t like how Prisma was looking at him (despite he couldn’t see his face).
“I can tell from your deck, that you’ve had a rough life, Rocky. I can only imagine what you’ve had to go through,” Prisma laid a hand on Rocky’s shoulder. Rocky looked down at himself, unable to deny it. Prisma decided to continue, “Don’t be ashamed of it. I can also tell that it’s what’s made you the strong young man you are today.”
Rocky looked up at Prisma, not understanding.
“Do you know how a diamond is made,” Prisma pointed to a poster on the wall, “It’s starts off as soft material, but over the course of being pressured and burned and pressured some more, it becomes an adamant jewel. No matter what the outcome would have been, I’m proud to have Dueled such a gem as you.”
“Thanks,” Rocky felt a little better about himself.
“Here,” Prisma handed Rocky a package, “I know that your deck is special to you, but when you feel like you can let go of the past, I think that these cards would fit you nicely.”
A few minutes later Marshal and Rocky left the store with their new treasures. They felt that it would be best to make a quick trip back to their hotel so that their new valuables wouldn’t be damaged or stolen. Rocky was unusually quiet as they walked in fact he even seemed to be disappointed.
“Rocky,” Marshal put a hand on his friend’s shoulder, “you okay?”
“No…,” Rocky pouted a little.
“Disappointed that you didn’t get to play your Ace?”
“I could have done it, if Prisma let me attack Cyber Jar like I wanted,” Rocky kicked a small rock that was in their way, “but that’s not it…”
“You thought that you could have gotten us a bigger discount?”
Rocky shook his head, ‘no’. After all, he really did go all out in that duel.
“Then what is it?”
“Remember when he played Dweller in the Depths,” Rocky blushed a little, “it really frightened me.”
“Our brave little Rocky scared of what he can’t see,” Marshal patted his friend on the back, “That will be the day.”
“Well, when I saw the way Dark Valkyrie was destroyed,” Rocky stopped walking, “it really scared me… I lost control.”
“Lost control,” Marshal tilted his head, “but you destroyed it with Torrent Warrior like a pro would.”
“No, I mean…,” Rocky lifted his shirt a bit, exposing little ruffles near the top of his pants, “I lost control…”
That’s when Marshal remembered what Rocky was wearing since they left the Shine Palace. Rocky blushed even harder when Marshal spoke next, “well, let’s be glad that you were wearing that then.”
“I feel all ickie…,” Rocky pretended to whine. It wasn’t that he liked the feeling of urine in a wet diaper, that he would pretend. (Of which, he really did not enjoy.) He just wanted to make Marshal smile… and hide his true fears for a little while longer.

(1700 ATK) “I’ll switch my Emerald Tortoise to attack mode and have him and myself attack your little warrior,” Prisma signaled for the two of them to attack together in a pair of shinning tornadoes that ripped apart at Spell Striker, but only his hammer shattered.
“I draw…,” Rocky drew one. Still, Rocky smiled as he set the card down in his spell and trap zone, “Now I attack your Pegasus with Double Header Enforcement!”

By sending my Amethyst Gem to the Graveyard, then I can negate your attack and bring Rainbow Dragon to my hand.” Prisma’s Gem shattered to summon Amethyst Cat to the field to defend her teammates from damage. I choose my Rainbow Neos to discard Elemental Hero Neos and then my Elemental Hero Prisma’s name becomes ‘ Elemental Hero Neos’.” The Prisma on the field glowed as he transformed into the image of the powerful alien hero.
