Yes, there is relation and overlap, I believe - so they both have some common roots. I studied Ojibwe language in college (has it been more than ten years already??) and I should know more but I have forgotten so much. If I remember right, the Dene are also referred to Chippewayan - Chippewa being a common name for the Ojibwe here too (Chippewa being a mis-hearing of Ojibwe O-Jib-we O- Chip- we O- Chippa - way Chippe-we etc.). The algonquin laguage group is a huge one that spans from the east coast into the midwest - the Dene language is from the Athabaskan group (I think) - I am trying to pull from a faulty memory. :) I do think there would be some similarities there, for sure!
