A very old image of mine drawn at a time when I had just discovered the Fandom and I was trying to find my niche. I drew this image mainly to show the several "Classes" of anthropomorphic animals that I like to draw. In the years since then I can think of several other "Designs" to add to the lineup. Heck, I could do a whole page on the Centauroid species alone.

Quite an accurate chart when used to compare the types of anthros found in the fandom today, actually. From Class I to IV, you have feral, "classic" toony, "modern" toony, digigrade anthro, and plantigrade anthro. With the exception of taurs, most furry and anthropormorphic art can fall under any of these categories. Thanks for sharing this one!
From the old 'fur code'...
Class 1: Animal with some human secondary features, like manipulating paws, or ability to think and speak
Class 2: Animal with some human primary features, like the ability to stand upright for short periods of time.
Class 3: Half way between human and animal. Equally comfortable on two or four legs.
Class 4: Human with some primary animal features, like fur coat and muzzle.
Class 5: Human with some secondary animal features, like ears or tail
Maybe you need a class VI. :)
As to favorites...
Heck, I could give all of them a hug. My first story character was a III, my current avatar is a II, and Is remain close to my heart; though my Is tend to be a bit bigger than depicted here.
And yes, I've a soft spot for VIs as well.

You might be on to something there. Now I know that "Nekko" translates from Japanese into "Cat," or "Kitty." but American English Slang could quickly adapt the term "Neko" to the new races of anthropomorphic "Critters" whenever they start appearing. It's kinda like when most folks go into a restaurant and order a "Coke," they expect to get a chilled, carbonated, sweetened and caramel colored soft drink of some sort. Oh sure. Some of the places get kinda "Snooty" and ask, "Would Pepsi be all right with you?' Well, most times I'll accept that.
Anyway, I think you're on to something, and hey... It's a great thing to add to your stories.

Yeah I know Nekko is a Catgirl, well generally, Catboys have the same name.
I know that the Japanese have names for all animalise humans types, like Rabbitgirls, Doggirls, Horsegirls, Cowgirls ect.
notice how most are girls even though there are male counter parts?
Though I don't know there translations. That is why I think Nekko is going to be a general name for any one with less then 25% modification.
Those with just Animal ears, tails, and maybe whiskers and skin patterns will be Nekko. Those with fur, Mussels and paws will be Furries
Morphs, or Anthros.
Then you'll have those that can't walk on two legs will be Ferals, not counting Tours. And you know some humans
will think going to the Feral level will be the thing to be.

Fascinating. You know? I remember a TV show in the late 1990s that did a little article on "Furry" fandom, concentrating mainly on the Fursuiters and those who enjoyed the sexual freedoms the genre had to offer. (Sadly not a single artist was interviewed.) Anyhoo, the story finished up with a bit about a young man (Then.) who had an affinity with Coyotes. Being mainly Native American in nature, the association seemed more "Spiritual" to him, and he claimed he only related to the animals. He admitted that sometimes he could see through the animal's eyes, and could even "Feel" their emotional state.
So I can relate to the definitions you've laid out. I myself has puzzled over what "Class" to put "Critters" in that say closely resemble Humans, but retain the animal's fur color, coat patterns, and perhaps even pointed ears and a small tail. I've even mulled over one class that looks absolutely Human, but can only be detected as being an "Upgraded" animal reconstruct, only through a blood test.
