Defective 26" Toshiba LCD TV turned into a lightbox.
Earlier this year I got at least 1200$ worth of LCD and plasma TVs in various conditions. Most lack parts or were too much trouble to repair, those were taken apart for working parts and sent to scrap. 2 of them have successfully been repaired, a 42" Panasonic plasma and a 37" Vizio LCD. There's another 42" Panasonic plasma (same model) that will be repaired. And there's another, a 32" Toshiba Regza that has a screen refreshing problem and will need some further troubleshooting.
But that's not what I really want to talk about here xD. This 26" Toshiba LCD TV wasn't working but had a pretty uncommon trouble. The screen would light up, but entirely in white, no sound or anything else, just a plain white screen. Seeing that, I saved it as a lightbox right away. The only problem, being an LCD TV, was the weight LOL.
So I spent a few hours rebuilding my lightbox into something much more lightweight, and drawing less power too. I gutted the fluorescent cooktop light of two cooking ranges and threw them inside the casing, basically. The only difference is that I used 15W 18" F15T8/D tubes instead of the original 18W 26" F18T8/CW/K26 ones. The starters and power cord are mounted in the area where the video cables used to be connected. Finally I installed a black single pole switch, like those on computer PSUs, on the side.
I don't think I'm gonna need a new lightbox for quite a while LOL. Tubes and starters are replaceable if needed, even the translucent Plexiglas panel is replaceable!

Yes I did remove absolutely everything inside the casing. I only kept the metal frame of the LCD display and a few metal brackets to hold the plexiglas sheet in place. I also saved a small piece of metal to make a ballast tray for the two ballasts but the rest is gone LOL.
