Just a thought, but why do you save an upload in JPEG format? It's good for keeping the filesize small, but you're left with a lower-quality picture and lots of artifacts.

Best to keep them in .PNG. It's lossless, so you shouldn't end up with artifacts. Also makes editing them down the line far easier.
