Its my birthday today, so i am surprising you all with a story i wrote a while back.
The truck was entering the parking lot of the Phoenix Mall in Arizona at the break of dawn. It was dropping off what would be the number one best selling product to ever hit the shelves. Inside the padlocked trailer of the semi was the new line of make-up. Titled Unique Perfections, the cream was fabled to be able to reflect the user’s idea of perfect beauty. It was proven with the help of a very isolated and private group of people, so that the product could not be recreated with major faults to the very precise formula.
The trailer’s locks were released and the doors were pulled open. Inside sat nearly two thousand individual bottles of the new Unique Perfection. Each case was carefully pulled out of the truck, and loaded onto a freight elevator which would deliver the cargo to the distribution room of the large mall. Each package was loaded with extreme caution, and the delivery men would take nearly five minutes each time grabbing a case and putting it into the elevator twenty feet away.
Even through all of their safety precautions, there endeavors were jeopardized. While the delivery men slowly but surely went to lift the last box, a snake was looking out for a dark place to hide from the sun. It spotted the large freight elevator, and slithered over to take shelter from the scorching Arizona heat. The men finished loading the supplies, but only after, the snake had gotten itself comfortable between the packages of make-up. The men turned around when they heard a quiet hiss; they panicked and hit the buttons of the elevator to close it.
As the doors closed a squeak was audible within the doors of the elevator. The snake picked it up immediately and coiled up to catch its unsuspecting dinner. The mouse shambled through the dark elevator, looking for something to eat, even though it was about to become food for something else. Eventually the mouse perched itself on top of one of the bottles of Unique Perfection, and the snake was able to strike. However, the mouse jumped away, kicking off the lid to the bottle, before the snake struck at it. The snake’s fangs were shoved into the neck of the bottle, and it instinctively released its poison. The snake coiled back up again waiting for the right time to strike again, but the doors opened.
The snake sat coiled in the back of the elevator, waiting for something to happen, or the mouse. In the entrance of the elevator stood a man wearing leather chaps, and steel-toed boots. He attempted to grab the snake with a long, clawed stick. The snake tried to evade, but it was captured and taken away.
With the excitement of the snake out of the way, more people started to unload every package of the new make up into the trolleys, which would make a trip to the stores. A quick check of the bottles, to discard any broken ones resulted in the recapping of the venom-injected bottle, and off the cosmetics stores. No one could possibly tell the there was snake poison inside of the make-up.
Maya was running down the street to get to the mall, later that same morning. She was a make-up fanatic. She had powders, creams, extracts, and everything else that she could get her hands on. She wasn’t going to let the next big thing get away from her so easily. She wasn’t the one who needed make-up either, she had perfectly straight, long black hair, pearly white teeth, she had a very natural tan, and a natural complexion. She had a slim figure, and very gentle facial features, from her smile, to here dark blue eyes.
She whipped open the door to the building, and charged inside. The first two stores in the building were already sold out; half-an-hour after the store had open. She had to do more running down the main wing of the mall to get to the only other store she was willing to visit. In a panicked run, she made it to the only store, in which the prices wouldn’t cost here an arm and a leg. She was relieved to find that there were still five bottles left on the shelf, and she grabbed one of the bottles, and bought it. She felt like she could die with no regrets, now that she had a bottle of Unique Perfections.
Maya paid a reasonable eighteen dollars for the miracle formula she was dying to get her hands on, and got her purchase. She dashed out the door, bumping into several people along the way. No matter how aggressive she got trying to get out of the building, she held on to her bottle with a delicate, but firm grip. She made it out of the front entrance of the building only five minutes after she entered, and with that she sped home.
She crossed several busy intersections, but that didn’t depress her. She just took another path home if she was caught on the wrong corner of the street. She took an alleyway at Kensington Boulevard, and headed straight instead of left at McHenrey road. She took some different paths, but she managed to get home in another half-an-hour, which was pretty good for a three mile course through busy streets. She flung open her door, ran upstairs, and locked the door to her room.
She jumped on her bed, and began to unpack her make-up. She now held a small; upside-down wineglass-shaped bottle made of blue glass, and had a mirror decorating the front. She turned the bottle around looking for the instructions for use, but what she saw first was an incredibly large caution warning. On it, the message said that this product should not be used with any other make-up. Please remove any chemicals that may be present in applied areas, for this may corrupt the formula for this product.
Maya woke up early that morning, so she did not choose to apply anything to her face. She still seemed nervous, but she talked herself out of her funk. She carefully took the bottle into her bathroom and looked at herself in the mirror. She tried to picture what exactly she wanted herself to look like when it was applied. She made up her mind on what she wanted, and opened the resealed bottle. She poured the now sickly purple cream onto her hand and smeared it onto her face.
She looked at herself carefully in the mirror, but she didn’t notice any differences. She picked up the bottle again and browsed the back of the bottle once more. She saw a small column next to the caution warning and saw that the user was supposed to lay down with a rag over their face for an hour, and then the effects will take place. She grabbed a towel from her bathroom, unhooked her Ipod from her charging station, and sprawled across her bed. She stretched the towel across her face and waited. A few minutes into the process her body grew numb. She lay in bed listening to music, which made her slightly drowsy. She began to fade off, but she caught herself every now and then. After what seemed like ages, her alarm rang, and she got up with the greatest excitement and bolted to the mirror.
What she saw was not what she expected to ever see, not ever, not even if it was that only thing that could save her life. She looked at herself dumbstruck as she saw a big, purple, scaly snake looking back at her, she fell backwards screaming. She hit the ground in an awkward fashion and she felt a concussive pain between her legs. She spun around only to see that a purple snake’s tail was waving back and forth. A lighter purple, diamond-weave pattern was also present on Maya’s new growth. She got up one more time, realizing that her legs and arms were completely covered in scales, and she breathed a sigh of relief that she was able to keep her limbs.
Her relief didn’t last long, however, because she felt, a throbbing pain inside of her mouth. She stuck her scaly finger into her maw, and felt that two sickle-like fangs were sprouting and a forked tongue flickering around. Her hand retreated as they fully emerged, and poison began to fill in. She was much skinnier now, and her clothes slipped off.
She hobbled back to her dresser, getting used to the long tail that dragged behind her. She opened her dresser and her closet, looking for something that could cover her up. The only things that fit her were a plain black shirt with tattered sleeves and hem around the waist, and a pair of skinny jeans that she had to cut a hole in to fit her tail through. Maya grabbed a pair of sunglasses from her closet and sat back on her bed, being careful of her tail.
Maya was very worried about how she was going to go out in public. Who was going to stay by her, everyone was going obviously run away from a strange, purple snake lady. She looked exactly like one, same head, face, scales all over, but the only exception was the fact that her limbs were still there. She decided to look back at the bottle to see if there was a contact number, after all there was a very strong warning. She examined the bottle closely, she struggled to find any numbers of sorts, but what she did notice was that there were two very faded stains of a purple substance. That was the chemical that got in, whatever it was, that is what made her so hideous.
She continued looking around the bottle in a panic, she took off the label, looked at it inside an out, but she couldn’t find any number. She threw the bottle down, but then noticed that there was more writing on the bottom. It was just what she needed. On the bottom of the bottle was the address of the company that created the Unique Perfections. It was fairly close to her home, but she would still need to drive a few hours to get there. She ran downstairs, grabbed a hoodie, and started the car.
She was careful not to head down any busy streets, because she did not want anyone to see her as the monster she was. It would take her several more hours, but she planned took the scenic route the entire way. Maya finally made it out of town and on to the country road after about two hours. There she could relax a little bit more, and flex her tail out into a more comfortable position. She only had three more hours in her drive left before she could hopefully get cured from her ailment. Her drive was long and uneventful, they way she was hoping for, so she was very contempt, that she was going to be able to be cured, without being spotted by any random person.
She became very exited being so close once more, that she almost forgot, what she was exited about, but then she saw her tongue flicker out, and remembered why she was depressed. She was ready to get rid of her scales, fangs, and tail, and in only and hour she would be away from all of it. As she grew nearer and nearer to her destination, she was able to find more comfortable ways to sit, and she felt that she could control her tongue a little bit easier.
She arrived at the factory, only to find that it was closed for the day. Maya had no where to go, her car was low on fuel, and she was not going to be spotted walking or filling up, so she had to find a way in, even if that meant breaking and entering. She drove around the abandoned parking lot, trying to find an entrance that she could use to get in, but her luck was dwindling. Maya was about to give up, and break her way through, when she caught a door that was held slightly open by a misplaced doorstop. She couldn’t contain her excitement. She hopped out of the car, forgetting to turn it off, and rushed straight into the building.
Curiously, she entered the building through the storage wing. Along the walls there were hundreds of shelves lined with Unique Perfections. She wandered the wing calling out to see if there was anyone that could help her. No one answered to any of her call so she decided to take matters into her own hands. She wandered the entire building looking for something that could tell her what to do. She tried looking at the computer at the help desk, she looked through the papers of the CEO’s office, and she even tried the laboratory. She could not find anything that she needed to get back to normal.
She went back to the storage wing to try to find an antidote. She still only saw thousands of bottles of the make-up that did this to her. She walked farther into the warehouse, and noticed that a bottle was lying on the floor. She picked it up and realized something. It reflects the user’s idea of perfect beauty. Maya thought on how she might be able to use this to revert back to her normal self. She grabbed a bottle and headed towards a bathroom.
She found a private bathroom inside of the CEO’s office, and locked herself inside. It was not like any old bathroom that you would see in a public area. It was actually fancy. Instead of a row of toilets and sinks, there was a heated floor, a large vanity that was decorated with cosmetics and moisturizers. Maya marveled at the relaxed, but powerful feel of the CEO’s office, but soon remembered her distress.
Maya grabbed a towel from the shelf and opened the bottle of Unique Perfections. She carefully examined the bottle to she if there was any foreign chemicals that did this to her in the first place before applying it, however. After the bottle past her inspection, she poured its contents over her hands and rubbed it all over her face and body. She carefully pictured her old self in her mind to the nearest detail, but some of her exact features had already slipped her mind.
She lay on the bathroom floor, with a towel over her head to await the changes that were surely to take place. She joked to herself on how she was to worried to think of this before. She thought about this for an hour, carefully awaiting the changes of her numb body. She was able to get up after the hour and check herself in the mirror. She still looked exactly the same as she did before. The same purple snake lady, with a long diamond-weaved tail that made it hard for her to walk.
Out of her frustration, she knocked everything off of the vanity, kicked the walls, and cried to herself. Nothing could make it better for her, nothing at all. Until a thought came through her mind: “I need more!” She dashed out of the bathroom into the CEO’s office. She bumped into the desk knocking several papers off. Maya rushed through the halls banging into discarded carts and dollies. She weaved her way through the maze of rooms and offices, trying to find a storeroom inside the building. It seemed that she was running in circles, but some things started to seem more familiar, from her trip from the car.
She found the storeroom she left from, and gazed off into the endless rows of shelves. She needed as much make-up as she could get so she pulled out everything on the bottom shelf, and dumped each of the entire bottles on her self. She still needed more and she began, to climb up the shelves, dropping every bottle to the floor, so that she could roll around in the puddle; sure there would be broken glass, but Maya’s scales would easily get passed that. She climbed higher onto the shelves knocking the glass bottles from the high. She got nearer to the top of her two story climb, but then the unthinkable, happened…
The large cargo shelf could not support her weight, and it tipped over. Maya instinctively held on, but she would still crash with the shelves. It was a long fall before she hit the ground, but when she did there was an ear-shattering crash and Maya lost consciousness. Hundreds more bottles still fell on her body, coating her with the Unique Perfections formula.
Maya awoke feeling very strange. She wondered how she did not die, or even feel pain, when the behemoth of a shelf fell right on her stomach. Her entire body felt like jelly, and it even felt like her clothes were attached to her. She looked for away to get out, before she tried to expel her much needed energy to get out of this. She saw a small opening letting in light to her chamber not far way. This was her best chance to get out. She squeezed her body, trying to get closer to the opening, and to her surprise it worked quite well. She continued pressing her body into the rubble and debris and finally got up against the whole. She was almost there, and with one last push she somehow squeezed through the hole the size of an apple.
She was free once again. She stood triumphantly next to her prison of debris. She looked down at her hands, they were still purple and scaly, but they still looked slightly different. Her hands looked like they were dripping wet. She looked down at her legs and she found that they had the same effect. She wondered what happened to her when the shelf fell. How did she get through that hole? Why didn’t the make-up work? What happened to her body? She was very confused.
She wanted to leave the storeroom, but the door was partially blocked off by the debris. Maya wondered if she could squeeze through the door as well. She pressed her body up against the door, and sure enough passed though. She cautiously walked back to the CEO’s room to get a better glimpse of herself in a mirror. The long walk was not at all agonizing for someone who fell two stories, and had a giant shelf crash on her.
Back at the CEO’s bathroom, she watched herself pass through the door’s cracks at the bottom, without opening it. What it appeared to be was that she was like a solid-liquid. The thoughts confused her as well. She did not know how this was happening, but one thing did pass her mind. There wasn’t anyway to get back to normal. She was going to stay a snake lady forever. She walked out of the room all depressed when she noticed one of the papers on the floor. It was a map of the building, and one thing that caught Maya’s eye.
On the map, close to her, was the brewing room, for Unique Perfections. Maya thought of something sinister, but it was the only way to be somewhat normal. She journeyed to the brewing room and mounted herself on top of the vat that held, eight thousand gallons of the make-up. If she couldn’t be normal, then she would take another thousand with her. She poured herself into the vat, and swam around, leaving behind drops of her liquid self into the formula. If she couldn’t be normal, than there better be some more snake people around.
After she finished her deed, Maya decided that it was time for a new change in leadership of the company. She bottled several jars of her corrupted unique perfections, and left them at the stations of all the people in charge. Maya would take the role of the CEO, when she personally gave it to the former.
Two days passed, and Monday came once again, it was the day that two of her plans would take action. Monday was shipping day, and when all of the employees came back. Maya waited in the CEO’s office, until the woman herself came in. Maya waited, crouched behind the desk, waiting for her prey to come along. The moment the CEO came within striking distance, she sprawled across the CEO’s entire body, smothering her in her liquid body. Maya got back up from the strike, only to find that the CEO was no longer there. She felt around her body, and noticed that there seemed to be something floating around inside.
Maya put pressure on the bloated area. She pressed down, and another purple snake lady fell out. She did not look exactly like Maya, however, because the diamond weave pattern was not present, she appeared smoother than Maya, who herself had a more rough look. There were two large snake ladies in the office, but the former CEO seemed awkward. She looked at everything like it had been completely different from two minutes before. It soon grew obvious that she had lost her memory. The lady looked dependently at Maya for some instructions. Maya felt pity for her and let her stay as her assistant for her now very important job.
Maya and her new friend strolled through the halls to see what had become of there employees. Everywhere they looked, they saw similar looking snakes that seemed to lack direction. Maya set them straight by telling them what jobs they had to do. She needed to keep up her new business; so that snakes would become normal instead of the freak she was days ago.
Over the next few months, production boomed. Many new snakes were appearing all over the USA. She set to work making the company her own. Little to no one suspected that the source of the transformations was a make-up factory in Arizona. Maya began to have experiments done to have a more varied population; nearly everyone was similar. Her assistant had rough skin and lighter purple colors. Some of her other employees only had an added hood, or a rattle. She had the scientist perfect another branch of her corruption into different colors or a set species. Every transformation had a different breed of snake; Maya herself was a diamondback, and her assistant appeared to be a Kingsnake.
Her trials were a success, and she ordered many of the employees to alter there appearance to erase any confusion. Maya’s factory became very diverse with different snakes. True that many of them were different species already, but now their colors had changed from purple to the rest of the rainbow.
Maya’s assistant was kept the same. Maya did this only because she needed on original snake to go to the meetings for her. She soon found out that being made solely of Unique Perfections had its downside. If someone had been smothered by her, there memory would be wiped clean like her original make-up. Since the new line was unveiled that was no longer a problem. Maya was the only one in the factory that knew her past and she intended it to stay that way. She wanted a long run as CEO.
