These living history events are for the general public of course, but they're also a chance for the reenactors to exchange ideas, historical trivia, etc.

I was at the 145th Anniversary reenactment, it was spectacular and the biggest event I have attended before or since, 12-15,000 reenactors, (7,000 of whom were Confederates) 500 horses, and 50 cannons on each side. The pyrotechnics were amazing and it was very eerie portraying one of the soldiers that fought there. (I died twice, on the first day in battle #1 and the last as a part of Pickett's Charge) I am proud to have done it, and am looking forward to the 150th anniversary reenactment, which i think will be bigger than even the 125th.
