ARE FRILLY FLOWERY ELVES.
AND HE HATES THEM. FOR BEING BORN AS AN ELF.
Devon was born in a relatively small village of elves that lived in warmer temperate forests of the largely human populated continent, Splitland. His tribe had little contact with outsiders, save a few wayward traveling merchants every few years. They like large amounts of fabric with tiny patterning, simple cuts and glass beads that they specially make. They're also spring-born and so love flowers, weaving completely unnecessary amounts of them into random shit. (Which is why Devon dislikes flowers as a plant)
Elves are insanely communal in nature, even to a biological level. They only breed once every hundred years and certain groups will align together for breeding during particular seasons. For instance, if a female that was ready to breed during winter of the year 112 moved to a group of elves that bred during fall of 145, she would biologically align with the rest to breed at the same time. Where they have month of crazy sex parties and later a month of crazy baby-having parties. Elves also party a lot. Anything they can use as an excuse to celebrate will start and end in a party.
General areas of elf heritages are recognizable by eye color, Devon's particular village consisting of blue eyes, and the differences in shade are often only noticed by elves alone, due to their acute attention to detail (much like their more subtle and explanatory array of expressions and body language). Cities are all pretty much melting pots of races, so many variations in eye color may appear in those areas.
Elf biology is similar to that of plants, which accounts for their more yellow toned skin and better resistances to disease and decay. They also gain some nutrients from sunlight and need to survive more on water instead of food substances; if they're in areas or times of little light, they depend more heavily on food. Subraces of elves are built a tad bit more like the plant matter their mother biomes, as well.
Once we get everything listed for the specifics of each race of the world, I'll put together lots of references, descriptions and art for the sake of general interest (and fun, on my part!).

Your background looks pretty solid (not that the art isn't great as well!). I particularly like your ideas for elven biology, making them that sort of bridge between plant and animal, as a species. It always seems to me like they are mostly depicted as just humans with pointy ears and different lifestyles, yet they are supposed to differ from humans in deeper ways than that. It will be interesting seeing what other races you have in your setting, and what your take on them is.
Thanks! We're delving into creation mythos right now (as I type!) and are altering a great deal of the generic races and fleshing out the backgrounds and biology to better suit the world and be more ideologically interesting. It's very cool so far and I'm extremely excited about it :D
