Aaron and Kerry were returning form the car show late at night. They were tired and sweaty from there long day viewing all the latest models of Lamborghini, Audi, Lexus, and Ferrari. They liked to make a yearly visit to the presentations, because being able just to sit behind the wheel made them feel the sense of accomplishment that people actually have when they can afford something like them.
However, after Aaron and Kerry finished their dust to dawn browsing, they instantly met up with reality again. They got back into their disappointing Chrysler, and took off down the road. It was times like these that reminded them, of what they once had bringing in the big bucks working at the American branch of Nintendo.
“Kerry…”
“What Aaron” yawned Kerry
“I would sure be nice if we could actually drive one of those down through the neighborhood. But… we’re just scraping by on what we have. We need to get jobs again.”
“I know were your going, but there is a lot of dead end jobs around here; its going to be nothing short of a nightmare to find something that we could both agree on, and get somewhere with. I don’t see where to start. But…”
“But what, I am open to anything right now.”
“There is this one place I know that hasn’t lost profits since it opened. It has been only going up. The place is always looking for work, but I don’t see why. I mean… it’s a costume shop.”
Aaron shifted his head at Kerry, who was driving down the road at night. It was clear by the look on his face that he was dead set on getting a job. He didn’t care if it was something as humble as a costume shop, but he just wanted to get somewhere in his life again. Kerry understood exactly what was being motioned at him, and drove down one of the side streets.
“So we are really going through with this.” Said Aaron
“Yea, but I think its best to apply right now, to avoid any stress or something.”
“Fine, but what if it does not go as planned?” asked Aaron
“Believe me, I am positive that we will get somewhere.” Responded Kerry
After a quiet ten minutes in the car, the two finally arrived at the costume shop. They pulled the car onto the curb, and began to have second thoughts. However, as they walked inside, they were greeted by a vast assortment of professional costumes. Every character was refined to the most precise detail from a bump on a wrist to several grooves in a shell. It appeared they specialized in creatures of all sorts. The craftsmanship of each costume erased any doubts Aaron and Kerry had about the business.
Kerry went to work on spamming the bell, until an employee wearing a hazmat suit came to the front desk. There was nothing distinguishable about the person, because there was not a speck of revealed skin on him. He stood there in an awkward silence for nearly a minute, which made both of them feel very uncomfortable. Aaron decided enough was enough and broke the pause.
“Excuse me, but can my friend and I apply for a job here. We are out of work, but we had a lot of experience in the past. You won’t find a better pair of workers for this place.” He said nervously
The employee showed absolutely no movement and stood a still as anything. He only moved his head to the left to face the squeamish Kerry. There was another brief pause before Kerry mustered up enough energy to say something.
“Its true, I have been working with this guy for years, and we were even fired together. So can we get a job here? I promise you will not be let down.” Kerry said weakly
The person lifted his arm, and motioned them into the back of the store. The two were confuse on what actually just happened, but it seemed to be going in the right direction. They followed him intently into the back room before he raised his hand, and meant for them to stop. They stood there eager, but there excitement soon faded… as well as their consciousness.
Kerry and Aaron awoke inside of am iron-walled room cluttered with thousands of catalogs. They were not in any sort of pattern, but just thrown here and there. The only thing that seemed in order was a laminated sign that was studded to the wall. It read “New Employee Catalog Room: Every new employee of this establishment is required to search through these catalogs and pick one that will be used as there uniforms.”
“Well Kerry, I think we got the jobs.”
“The question is, do you think we can get out of our jobs?”
“Not a chance, but I say since we are probably trapped down here, that we will make do with the best we can, so lets sit down and pick something worth wearing.”
The two sat down at a table and flipped through hundreds of catalogs of glorious costumes and outfits. None really captured there attention, except for the Nintendo themed costumes. These brought back memories of their unique jobs at that company. Back at Nintendo, they were set up to create new characters for the games. Aaron especially was interested in coming up with new Pokemon for future development, and Kerry would improve them.
Aaron continued to look through the books just looking for something that he would be satisfied with for a while. Very few things were successful at satisfying him, but what really opened his mind was the complete custom costume add on the back of his last magazine. It read “Now available: Custom Costumes. Think of anything and we will get it to you.”
“Hey Kerry, what do you think about this custom costumes idea. I think it could be pretty cool hanging around in something we thought of ourselves.”
“I love the idea, but what would we do?”
“SOLDIAURAS!” shouted Aaron before Kerry could finish his sentence
“Well you seem mighty exited about them, and I am a pretty big fan too, so why not.”
The clerk waiting on them in the room overheard them, and no later had they made up there minds were Kerry and Aaron taken into another room. It was a long hall way with only a large metal door on the other side that said fitting room. Aaron started to go forward, but he was grabbed by the collar of his shirt. He was confused, but then the entire hallway shook violently and started to lower into the floor. It took almost five minutes for the hallway to stop moving, so it was obvious that they were much farther down than the previously were.
They walked down the hall over to the lone door at the end of it. The door was not elaborate in any way whatsoever, but it was different on the inside as they soon found out. Inside there were many complicated machines, making it nearly impossible to figure what came after another or vice versa. This, however, was of no concern of them because all Kerry and Aaron had to do was sit in two recliners.
The entire process was simple: first a machine will take a sample of a metal image a there chosen form. This will then advance into a computer. They two sitting in the recliners will then be wrapped completely in a cloth as the computer manipulated the fabric into a three dimensional image of the idea. If only that was all…
They sat down, and braces locked there arms, legs, torso, and head in place. The sudden clamping scared them out of there wits, and what came next did not help either. Wide-eyed and at a loss for words, they became almost mummified in skin tight, burlap-looking material. There head were the only things exposed, but they were attached to a mechanical helmet that made there mind foggy. They felt completely out-there, but as there heads were covered, they fainted.
Aaron awoke first, except that there wasn’t much of Aaron left. He could barley see because his vision was so blurred. He got up from the recliner, but the helmet tugged at his head. He pulled and pulled but it wouldn’t come off. He was about to give up, but he got a sudden burst of strength, and off the helmet came, along with all Aaron remembered.
The creature’s vision returned only to see mirror. It stood there, all six feet of it. It looked vaguely like a lucario, but that was because it was created as an evolution. This soldiaura as it was called was green, much furrier, and much more aggressive. The tail was as hard as steel and spiked at the end, its eyes held a piecing gaze, and its presence sent a chill down the spines of anyone near.
As it was looking at itself in the mirror, several mechanized wires sprang from unknown holes in the floor, and attempted to grab the soldiaura. Out of sheer instinct, the creature destroyed several of them in the air, but still a few got through. They latched on to his body, and rendered him immobile, while another helmet was lowered from the ceiling.
Artificial memories import started…
As strange new images filled into the creatures head it grew less feral, and more civilized. It grew more familiar with its true powers, and erased the urge to defend himself from the experiment. False memories filed into his brain, giving him the thoughts of what he really was.
Artificial memories import complete…
He looked over at the slightly different creature getting up from the table. This was still the same species, but was covered with aquatic blue fur, and a spiked ball was mounted at the end of its tail. The two locked eyes, and there seemed to be a memory of their partnership engraved in there brain.
A voice on the loudspeaker came on “Attention! This is an important briefing message for the newly recruited security guards. You two soldiauras has participated in an experimental procedure and emerged successful so I must congratulate you. You have been admitted into a line of security for this entire facility. As you ‘remember’ from your training, you two will be partners in your line of duty. Make us proud!”
“Yea you are my partner.” Said the green soldiaura
“I remember you, but not much else, not even my own name.” responded the blue
“Well I guess that this is a fresh start for you and me then, I say that we can have any names we want. Call me Sol!”
“Hmm… Why not call me Auro, I kind of like that.”
The room filled with a flash of light, and vanished quickly. Sol found that he was now wearing green glowing gloves, and something alost bandana-like around his head, that helped him read others auras around his head. Auro was wearing a blue glowing necklace and braces on his wrists and ankles.
"Well shoot to thrill, and play to kill... I look mighty nice" said Sol
“Uhm… Okay then Sol.” Said Auro
They took there leave through the lonely exit there was, which took them through the main security office. Inside were very few characters, but each one seemed to be very intimidating. A tiger pointed them in the direction of the head of security’s room were they will be appointed. In the room, a Cerberus was waiting for them on top of a metal table.
“Glad to see you’re alive, now let me introduce myself. I am Domimini, and so is my other head. I see you’re a bit confused so here is the lowdown. You Sol and Auro will be in security inside this community. This is a very important job considering what most of us are capable of, but the way you are that won’t be a problem. Those gems you two have signify the strength of the effectiveness of your abilities. The stronger you emotions, the more powerful they become, don’t worry about losing them, however, they are mostly aesthetic. Think of something, and let the feel of it flow into your body.”
Sol shut his eyes and imagined a sword. He thought about it long and hard until he could swear that he could feel it in his hands. He opened his eyes and was surprise to see that he was actually holding a blue sword that was radiating some sort of energy. Auro did the same and tried to imagine armor for himself. He opened his eyes and was surprised that it worked so well and easy.
“It is no surprise that this is second nature to you now, because it’s all you have been doing for a while. I am positive that I can trust you on patrol now. Oh and before I forget, I need to tell you” but before she could finish her sentence, the power fluxed and red lights and sirens began to go off. Before the Cerberus could pick her sentence back up, Sol and Auro already ran out the door to find the problem.
Their abilities lets them kick off the walls and over the crowds that were running for there rooms. As the crowds became more scarce, they were able to head into a full on sprint through the halls of the facility. Every so often, they would pass a map that showed them were the problem area was, and they would take off for that spot.
Expertly weaving through the halls, passages, and multiple levels, they came closer to whatever was going on. They began to hear cries for help, which only increased their adrenaline. With one last burst of speed they turned the corner and saw something.
There was a gaping hole in the wall leading to the warehouse of the facility. There was a crane that was holding an innocent otter to the ground, and holding some costume in the other.
Sol immediately jumped at the crane and knocked him into the wall. Auro stood back while he prepared a length of chains in his mind. The crane got back up and raised his wing, so Sol took that as a challenge. He took a flying leap at the crane and kicked him square in the face. In the foe’s disorientation, Auro whipped his chains at the crane and delivered the final blow before his was completely incapacitated.
The two brought the crane back to the office before settling in for the night. They received there own room from that start just off the head’s office. Chatting away about there first day, they did not notice that on the other side of the wall, something very strange was happening. If they found were listening, there ordeal would have been avoided…
The next day, Sol and Auro were called into the office. The Cerberus was in a very perky mood. They have not known him for very long, but it was easy to tell he did not act like that often. He was humming to himself, and didn’t notice that they had walked in until Auro spoke up.
“Boss, you wanted to see us, right?”
“Oh, when did you get in? Never mind that, I have something to show you.” He responded
The Cerberus walked them back into the room were they became soldiauras. The machine was working, but every time they asked, he would ignore them. He stopped at the door that lead into the actual chamber, before he stopped and waited for what seemed like ages. A light above the door blinked green and the Cerberus grabbed the doorknob.
“Well, you two did such a good job yesterday, that I decided that your species could be incredibly important to our team, so we found another to be in your group.”
He opened the door and inside stood a pure white soldiaura. He was wearing a glowing blue scarf, and blue sleeves. He had a slightly smaller stature than the other two, but seemed to be as determined and fierce as the rest of them. His ears hung down much lower than theirs, but other than that he was completely normal.
“Welcome to our team!” said Sol
“I would love to join you, let’s go!”
