trying out dry color pastels that is. This is an ATC done with some dry pastels that lay down pretty color, especially on black paper. I even forgot where I got them now, but they are not of this nation I think... but i wanted to try them out, and see what was what. I like the messyness of the medium and the result. :)
This is all only 65x90 millimeters, partly hand cut, done in about an hour. I love ATCs because they are such a small thing yet they are a complete canvas that stands all by itself, and you can cram it with detail easily and quickly! I'm going to make more of these between commission times. I want to give this one away, but not sure how yet or to who. Also protip: you can't spray fixative on pastels, it all goes gray and horrible.
But I looove pastels now and plan to 'paint' with them more... wonder what i should do with them, there's so many possibilities!

Hi Kurra,
Kudos to the work you just posted. Based on your dimensions, it is definitely a small piece. The link below will take you to the only pastel drawing I have done, of "K" Roo.

Perhaps the main influence of using pastels was a pastel drawing done by an artist in Winston-Salem of DahDitDah Roo which turned out well. To prevent smearing, I sprayed the drawing with a clear, poly-urethane coating, which is the same urethane I use for touching up my paper-mache masks. After three years, I have not seen the color loss or fading that you mention. Perhaps you may be talking about a different spray.
I hope you will continue to enjoy using your pastels. Thanks for sharing.
Cheers,
---> Wally

YAY pastels! :D Your work reminds me of Chinese watercolors (or is it Japanese?)
oh... polyurethane? I never thought of polyurethane. c: The spray I normally use is just spray fixative, what artists use to fix like pencil and charcoal stuff. This pic hasn't faded yet, but I don't see any artist quality label on this pack of pastels, so it may fade over time.
Thanks for looking! :D *squeezes hard around ya*
