you shouldn't have to be a member to play. start by putting down a dot, then two. see what works, as you read the rules. they are fairly simple.
Any live cell with less than two neighbors dies of loneliness/lack of food
any live cell with more than three neighbors dies of overcrowding
any live cell with two ro three neighbors lives tot he next generation
any dead cell with three neighbors becomes a live cell.
the grid is a square grid, so each cell can have a total of eight neighbors. The glider is a special pattern that replicates itself untill it moves off of the grid. obviously, any glider that meets another glider will interact with it according to the rules. Same with stable patterns. of which there are several. one of the basic patterns is the blinker. it is three cells in a row. If you work it out, you will see the same two stages. One vertical, one horozontal. it 'blinks'.
