spring, spirit dancer, nimble and thin, i will leap like coyote when i go
tireless entrancer, lend me your skin, i will run like the gray wolf when i go
i will climb the rise at daybreak, i will kiss the sky at noon
raise my yearning voice at midnight to my mother in the moon
i will make the lay of long defeat and draw the chorus slow
i'll send this message down the wire and hope that someone wise is listening when i go
and should you glimpse my wandering form out on the borderline
between death and resurrection and the council of the pines
do not worry for my comfort, do not sorrow for me so
all your diamond tears will rise up and adorn the sky beside me when i go

My Inspiration
My contribution to the 2013 Werewolf Calendar was inspired by the book The Lost Wolves of Japan. I was intriuged by the thought of some "sub-species" or culture of werewolf going extinct like so many other creatures in this world.
"Not all werewolves have managed to survive the ages. Many have died off and left behind only stories and occasional remains. The werewolves of Japan are one such group that disappeared around the turn of the 20th century. These werewolves were similar to their inland cousins, but are a little shorter in stature. They still stalk the folklore of many Japanese regions."
Here the possible last werewolf of Japan slinks into a drowned graveyard, entering death while looking back into life as the wind bells chime. This is the most complicated and difficult piece I've ever attempted! There are a lot of flaws but I hope you all can enjoy the piece anyway. I enjoyed the work despite numerous frustrations, and painting the tiny red fruiting bodies of the moss was the most fun.

I composed the image myself but I was inspired by several photos, most of which you can see here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1629405/moodboard.jpg As you can see there are elements in the piece but the design and concept is my own.

You are truly a wonderfully unique critter.
And, flaws aside (and, as an artistic semiliterate, I find it hard to make them out), this is a a splendidly impressive piece -- pensive, elegiac, multifaceted. I look forward to seeing it in the calendar itself!

Somehow, it's manages to both be very sad and beautiful at the same time. A strange mix of emotion seeps through the background. This is a very strange emotion, as I have never felt it before. It is somehow so small, yet so grand, as if there's so much more. As if I wouldn't want to touch it, as if I would ruin it. The werewolf's gaze makes me wonder what he's looking at. The darkness and lack of sunlight make it very... new. Fresh. This is the strangest piece of artwork I have ever seen.
Fantastic or chef d'oeuvre barely even begins to describe how awesome this picture is. The atmosphere of the picture, the way you drew the moss covering the eons old remains of the place (is it a palace or a temple of sort?), the ripples and the reflections of light on the water, the mist and the trees, you did an oustanding job. I wouldn't mind having this hanging on my walls and show it to everyone!
Stunning...I really enjoy the sense of wind that you give with the blossoms floating down and the windchimes clinking! I also totally wanna just roll in and touch that lush moss! And that subtle addition of a fallen over tombstone, and the one canting to the side, really adds to the atmosphere...beautiful!
wow! This is truly a remarkable piece! your time and effort here has spared no expence, and is certainly appreciated. this is beautiful! Also, I was listening to this as I read the poem and viwed the pic, it was really kinda cool...http://www.youtube.com/watch?featur.....;v=LJyiTDAWzDA Once again, great job!
