Well, for the record, guns don't do anything without bullets in them. And the magazine contains the bullets, soooo...
Not really a gun nut thing, more of a basic knowledge about firearms thing. I don't have to know what an STG-44 is to know that his gun would work a lot better with bullets in it.
Now, a nitpicky gun nut thing to say would be, where would he keep the ammo if he even had any? Those skinny jeans don't appear capable of holding many loose bullets, let alone a magazine or two. I don't see any ammo pouches.
Shoot, at least the ram guy has cargo pants, you could fit plenty of spare Glock magazines in that.
But the moral of the story is, when someone hands you a ref, you should probably dig a little deeper than just the one picture. Especially if you know nothing about guns. Research research research.
Other moral, don't just hand an artist a picture of a gun and assume she can take it from there. A lot of people don't know jack about them, especially artists, so do some damn legwork or she'll draw him holding it backwards.
Or... Whatever he's doing with his left hand right there. Stroking it so it's calm I guess.

I think you're a -tiny- bit late. You might want to look at the time-stamps of the previous comments.
The picture was edited a -long- time ago.
The reason all the comments about the AR being empty were being made was because when the picture was first uploaded, the gun was shown without a magazine at all. After the comments were made the artist edited the picture, and drew in a magazine in the mag-well.

Thank you! High praise coming from you, if you don't mind my saying so. You may recall (or you may not) that you even drew the zebra for me when I was first conceptualizing this version of the story. It's my hope to eventually get my ideas onto paper, right now I'm working on it. The official Talwyn style of dress was sort of a happy accident from another artist which I loved so much I just adopted it (what the cat and zebra are wearing), and so far it has proven to be well received.
Incidentally, lovely work on the extinctioners fan characters.

You know, even more than the picture, I am impressed that you've gone your entire life and never seen an AR-15 style rifle with the magazine in it.
The most popular style of rifle in the U.S. today, in movies and on TV pretty much constantly, the military's used it since the seventies, and you've never once seen it with the magazine in it.
That's like never seeing a Ferrari with the wheels on, that's like never seeing an ATM with a keypad on it, like never seeing a computer with a keyboard or a mouse. Like never seeing a toothbrush with bristles, a car with gas in it. Basically the vital component required to make the thing function.
Or maybe you've just never seen an AR-15 or M-16 before, which is more believable.
But I prefer to think of it in this outlandish fashion.
Bravo, clap hands everybody, I'm not even being sarcastic, that is an achievement.
To be so focused on your art that you never learned that bullets go into magazines, and they go into the gun. You do not even know that guns are basically bullet delivery systems, that is how focused you are on art.
That is an achievement, and I salute you, for America.....
This is really not getting across the idea that I'm not being sarcastic, is it?

I was just looking through artist galleries at older art that I liked, which includes this piece, and for the first time I'm looking at the comments on this one. For one thing, why is everyone so rude? Just because something is common knowledge to you doesn't make it as obvious to every single person on the planet. Someone can be aware that guns shoot bullets, and that bullets go in the guns to be shot, but not be aware of just how exactly they're loaded without someone teaching them, or learning through practical experience.
When I was younger, for instance, and knew very little about guns, I thought the magazine on an assault rifle was a forward handle. It wasn't until later I learned that that's where the bullets are kept. Also, thanks to video games and the like, I persisted in calling it a clip until late into life.
Secondly, looking at some of the comments, folks have been saying they can see that its empty. How? Do you have magic art x-ray eyes? I'm fairly certain the AR-15 is not usually transparent, so unless you know more back story to the picture that I don't, you can't actually see how many bullets are in the mag. In real life, or in the art.
One post implies that there is no magazine loaded into the weapon.. I can see the mag plain as day.
Color me confused.
Unless, of course, all the incessant complaining motivated the artist to alter the image, add the magazine in, and resubmit or update this submission, and no one has commented since then. Very likely.
Nitpickers pointing out the giraffe's lack of spare mags are valid, although petty, as video game magic has often given folks far more ammo than they could physically carry, and it's become a common hand-wave convention of fantasies. Except for those folks who demand absolute realism at all times, in which case, you should more be questioning why these animals are on two legs and have hands, than where he keeps his extra mags. Heck the protagonist of any Grand Theft Auto video game has an entire national guard armory stuffed into his hoodie. Suspension of disbelief is a lovely tool of fantasy.

You are correct, I altered it after and didn't really feel like making a note of it. While it wasn't very important to Lauren, I was kind of tired of seeing people bitch over something so insignificant. (I actually consider myself very lucky that I don't live in a place where I have to know the ins and outs of an assault rifle.) I think it's just human nature to want to criticize.
As for why people are so rude, I haven't been able to figure that one out. I can only guess they're unhappy in their real lives and a virtual "so there" gives them a small sense of power. I once drew a couple of Australian characters and gave one a can of Fosters because it had a kangaroo in its logo, and evidently that's a huge slap in the face to the Australian people who "don't really drink Fosters". As if beverage preference matters at all. I had one kid on DA inform me of that oversight in all caps. Yeesh. I don't know, Anne, it's a mad, mad, mad, mad world.

Folks need to learn to take a chill pill, and look at life with a little bit of humor. I know Australians don't really drink Fosters, and I know they don't really go to, or even have Outback steakhouses. There's all of one Outback in Australia, and if I'm not mistaken, it's in Sydney, for all the fat american tourists.
Gotta love the hypocrisy, when they point out 'flaws' like that, and yet many nations, and the people in them HONESTLY believe all Americans are packing revolvers and shotguns, wear cowboy hats,, and speak and act like the stereotypical Texan roughneck.
For all those who refuse to laugh at themselves, I submit this for your consideration.
