Rising Green
My blood doth rise in the roots of yon oak,
her sap doth run in my veins.
Boundless, my soul like the open sky,
where the stars forever have lain.
My hands hold the weavings of time without end,
my sight as deep as the sea,
Beating, my heart sounds the measures of old,
that of love's eternity.
I feel the tides as they answer the moon,
rushing on a far distant sand.
Wondrous our faith, settles deep in the Earth,
rising green to bring a new day.
words and music by Carolyn McDade ©1980
soprano: Amadhia
tenor: Amadhi
We sang this song last time in the spiritual feminist group I belong to, (our focus is to help the Earth and all be-ings through the positive vibrations put forth through song). I'd never heard it before and I was just in tears while singing it.
We do a lot of music of Carolyn McDade, who's been writing songs of respect and love for all beings, (not just animals, but also trees, waters, rocks, air, even the stars,) since at least the 1970's. I'm by far the youngest in our circle, (the eldest now I believe is in her late 80's). It's a wonderful group of truly wise-women who are gentle, elegant and strong, truly the role-models I felt I lacked growing up in this modern era.
With them, it's okay that I feel in my heart that I'm an "animal" spirit – most of them feel similarly too. *wags softly* At one retreat, we did this wonderful meditation where we became our animal spirits... and I remember so clearly the line, "Feeling your whiskers reaching out wider than your mind."
So, I wanted to do something special with this song and have it truly be a _blending_ of Yin and Yang... so I asked a favor of my spirit-twin, (Amadhi,) and he graciously recorded the alto line down in the tenor range for me. (*wags* Isn't technology great! :) He's doing well in his new life, and he sends his blessings. :)

Well, that was quite interesting, so was the story behind it. It's nice to have a chance to hear your voice in isolation (and duo, but you get what I say xD) I can say, the panning is a bit weird at times, such different voices shouldn't be too separated withn stereo in my opinion, but at times they blend perfectly as well :3
wroooo..! Thank you, Felongo! You're so sweet! (heh, yah, that's me pretty raw... I even forgot to EQ my tracks! :P )
Yes, they are just a wunnerful group of women... and sometimes I feel almost like I'm at a quiet gathering at a furry convention when I'm with them.
*heeee* Yes, I _totally_ don't know about mastering or engineering or anything. *wags* I just play around and see how things feel -- thanks so much for the suggestion! :)
*wagwags* I've been practicing a _lot_ lately, and the weird thing was that I really liked almost all of the 3 takes I did for this last song. So I didn't want to throw them out... I thought it might be neat to try my voice "doubled" :)

wrooo... Thank you, Malstorm!
*heh* wrooo... Yah, I'm not an engineer by any stretch of the imagination, but these are really just for practicing singing and seeing what kinds of styles feel good... so... *wagwags* It's all "run and find-out" :)
Thanks! I'll look into that next time! :)
