wow at first i saw the thumbnail and thought darth maul but now that i see the full pic damn ...what is it about drell that makes them sexy...maybe its how mysterious their race is..i dont really know much about them...other then they can recall memories as if it was happening again
Haha, there's very little written about them which is a shame, and even if there was more information, by canon they're quite recluse as it is. Most don't leave Kahje, and the ones who do tend to find new societies to live in quietly and keep to themselves. They'res not many of them left, by my estimation of how many drell that were taken from Rakhana 800 years ago, + the vague reference of how fast their population can grow, I sort of figure there's about 3 million - 5 million drell in existence, and maybe only a few thousand who are living off Kahje.
Their design is inherently attractive, if you consider that their existence was mainly to be a romance option. So most of their seductiveness as far as appearance goes comes from the art team's ability to successfully create something unique and interesting looking. They had a lot of help from female employees giving input, as well, during Thane's creation.
What really gets me down is, all of that work that they put in to Thane, making him one of the 'poster childs' for ME2.. I mean they created an entire new race to their universe for him to exist, and look what they did to him in ME3. And what they did to the entire drell race--which is they neglected it entirely. They have two entire head sculpts in the entire series--Thane, and Kolyat, they have one outfit for the entire series--spare Feron's unique clothing in the comic books which they didn't bother wasting the time to model in Lair of the Shadow Broker, so he got the slapped-on recolor of Thane's outfit...
It's really disheartening to me when I think about all of the wasted potential they had with the drell race. I have always really loved reptiles and when I first saw Turians I thought they were very dinosaur or old reptile like or dragony, but then I found out they were avian and even though they don't look it a single bit, I wished there was a true reptilian race, because I almost always gravitate towards those types of races. (Argonians, Cardassians etc.) and I thought the closest I was gonna get in Mass Effect's universe was gonna be Krogan, or Salarians, even though they're amphibian and not true reptilian. And then they made the drell, and it was interesting, and unique, and unlike any other reptile-humanoid I'd seen before. They had unique features without the common design choices of things like horns, elongated snouts, tails, claws, pointed teeth etc. It was fantastic to me.
:I yet they tossed it away, in the end. And that's really upsetting to me. But, that's where I write my own head canon, and build up my own idea of the race's existence, their culture, their heritage, religion, etc. And believe me, I've written pages and pages and pages about what I think their race is like. If they wont do it, I will.
WOW this is really super long I apologize I went on a huge tangent there. Thank you so much! haha. All red drell tend to look like darth maul to me, too, but that's why I like them, I think. For my red toned drell I try to include other colors in their skintone so they don't look too close to a Zabrak.

I agree there, its a shame it doesn't seem theres even many drell fans, let alone OC's that I know of. I've created one to be a friend of my turian gal Ghost, teaching her ways to fight and even some parkour for fun hehe. Havnt quite got his skin patterns down, but I think I got th rest design wise finished. Anyways, keep up the great work!
