well two if you count chovek. i'm assuming he's not a heartless bastard (most of the time) and that he's probably hurt just as much as kyo by the whole thing. hence 'toxic' relationship.

i realized i was making some mistakes in writing chovek's letter, but then just decided to leave them because it'd seem more...actual? people make mistakes in letters, it'd be different if it were dialogue.

Ouch, I got dumped on email once too. But at least Chovek wrote more than 4 sentences. Ouch ouch.

yeah part of the reason i went with a letter instead of my original concept (which was to have chovek actually follow them there and go into a long argument with kyo at the bar) was that it felt like something people would be able to identify with as readers.

i mean if it were ten years ago getting dumped in a letter would be unheard of in a story and just really weird and callous but now it's...fairly common. i mean a letter is considered polite vs people just going IS NO LONGER IN A RELATIONSHIP on facebook and shit. it's something most readers have probably had happen at least once in their lives and can still remember the pain of.

I suppose I should have seen this coming, but it's still a blow. I love Chovek as a character, and the way he was with Kyo was adorable, but then Kyo IS an alcoholic and a dependent personality. I wouldn't exactly put up with him forever either.

This can't bode well for Kyo and Grey in any event. If Kyo's in charge, I can only see doom in their future.

it's also been fairly foreshadowed that their relationship is strained at best. i mean even when they were in bed together, it wasn't chovek kyo was snuggled up to, and chovek wasn't at ease with the situation.

But srsly awh. That was like the last thing I excpected to be in the letter, this chapter's already shapping up to be the new saddest one.

well remember that grey was struggling with his words when he was describing the car. he described the scent as like kyo. so it could be, say, a relative...

I was trying to puzzle what you just said out in my head and nothin' was comin', until like hours later in the middle of work and an answer hit me!

The only reason this "Dear John" letter surprises me is because I recall Chovek saying something to Kyo like "We're not off or on".

I took that to mean they were friends with benefits.

lying awake in bed realizing you've just had your friend with benefits show up with a crashing tweaker and an unmedicated, underfed schizophrenic who's being hunted by the authorities and expects YOU to fix that...tends to make you rethink things.

Yeah, I've downgraded "good" friends who've pulled similiar and worse hilarious hijinks.

I hope at some point in the future things will work out for them. The main factor required for this to happen will be that Kyotoshi grow a backbone, stop acting so helpless, and stop limiting his horizon to booze and career-lessness.

I'd never want to see him lose his drive to help others, though.

ayep. you are spot on. he needs to take initiative to fix things, and not just pass the buck and bury his head in the sand.
