These warm-ups are quickly getting out of hand. I only had a half hour to blow but instead couldn't stop until it was uniform. C'est la vie..
Just like the last one, I log on to FA, check a recently submitted image, use the character as reference for a warm-up, and then leave the product as surprise gift art.
Artists, don't know what to draw for a warm-up? Do your own rogue redesign for a stranger!

Haha, in two hours??? Yeah, you're not getting a completely tightly rendered piece in that timeframe -- that's not an inability or failing on your part, that's just reality <3 This looks a lot nicer than my stuff does two hours in! I think you've chosen what areas to block in and which details to render in order to make it feel nicely solid and "convicing."
I saw the thumbnail and totally fell in love. You're doing some really interesting things with color temperature in the figure, which (combined with those abs) is where the Phil Hale is coming in, I think? It's like... cool in the shadows and extreme highlights, and warmer in the mid-tones??? And the generally cool figure against the super high-key warm background gives it so much pop.
I'm all for seeing more complexity and detail and pushing one's rendering skills is always nice, but I think the biggest asset in your art has always been the dynamism, and I'd hate to see you veer into a more static, academic painting mode (like mine 9_9) and lose some of this great energy. I'm sure you'll find a balance that works well!

You're the closest thing to Phil Hale furrydom's ever had. It is going to be so much fun watching your career arc as you slip, slide, chop and hammer your way through the entertainment biz.
Yeah, speed is important to the biz. Don't ever let it rule you nor beat yourself up because something like this took longer than you intended. Beautiful dictates its own schedule. Keep exploring what you have to say and refining how you say it. That's what defines a good artist, not how fast they are.
