Ten years ago I remember, there was Yerf, the VCL, and a small site called Furnation that had only a few artists on it. Sonic art was big, angsty art was in vogue, and so was FurryMUCK, IRC, and ICQ was beginning to catch on. The most prominent artists I can remember were K-9, Wookiee and Kaa Starhunter.
Ten years ago tonight (midnight, to be precise), I picked up whatever I had around me (a cruddy BiC pen and lined paper if I'm right) and started my life as an artist. You could often see me walking off someplace with a binder of sketches in one hand, or a computer mouse in the other as I'd steal away to my room to follow my muse. I started out as an anime artist, became heavily involved with encoding hidden messages into my works with the use of symbols, and eventually headed into making full-fledged compositions that emphasized the figure, while not forgetting the background.
I hoped to one day be as good as K-9, Wookiee and Kaa, and while I don't think that I'm quite there yet, I've had a lot of fun and met a lot of great individuals in the collective furry world. Here, I step back and remember the last ten years and all that came with it. The image I've made for this describes part of my design process, me walking briskly to my desk with an idea in my head, ready to run with it.
Thank you all for visiting my little spaces on the web. I hope your visit has been a good one. But for now, it's Halloween. It's time to dress up, party, and have a damn good time! C'mon everybody, we're going to celebrate, One More Time.
