An illustration for the article in Palladium Books' Rifter #59: Josh Spinsapaugh's Creatures of the Xiticix Hivelands.
Illustrated here is one of his Xiticix killers. The Vesparix, inspired by certain kinds of wasp, they lay eggs inside Xit grubs as part of the reproduction cycle.
Given that it was 2 weeks from when I was handed the task to publication date, I had to rush out the drawings. This meant no scanning, no playing with tones or shades on computer. Just getting the works done (on bristol, so I could even abandon the drawings at the Palladium offices) and getting them to print.
So I actually took it back a step, and used old-fashioned illustration techniques to shade these. I'll add the Proto-Xit here later, and you can see an example of my stippling. But the Zombie Xiticix is up on my deviantArt.

Neat picture, I almost want to save the idea and the picture reference for something I would do in one of the systems I actually run. I can find folks willing to play Mutants and Masterminds, Pathfinder or Savage Worlds a little more easier than Rifts. And in some ways, Rifts is like Iron Claw in that the idea is fantastic the way the rules are set up leave something to be desired. But I can definitely see these guys in any new version of SpellJammer I might want to run.
