The light broke into the room through the parted curtains. The figure lying in the bed flopped over and parted his eyelids to look at the clock. He then rolled back over and barely closed his eyes when the clock began to blare out in the room. The figure jumped and flopped onto the floor wrapped in his bedding. He stood and turned off the clock. He then parted the curtains to let more light in. he gathered his stuff to get in the shower when a bang at the front door startled him. He answered it. The second figure entered the Apartment. They greeted each other and the one figure headed for the shower.
He lathered up washing everything. He rubbed the soap down his long thin tail. He then washed his furry ears that poked straight up in the air. He rinsed and stepped out; putting on the clothes he laid out the night before. He then walked to the kitchen and made himself and the other figure breakfast.
“Hey Kanji, are you coming to the club after school today?” the second figure said.
“Uh…Sure.” Kanji said with a yawn. “Who’s going to be the president Enkai?”
“I thought we’d take a vote. We haven’t even come up with a name for it yet. Don’t get me started on the creatures that’ve been haunting my dreams too. This is the reason were starting this club in the first place.” The otter said.
“They’ve been haunting me too.” Kanji said as he took a bite of scrambled eggs.
There was another knock at the door which startled Kanji. He perked up his wolf ears and got up. He walked over and answered the door. Rukya was standing there. She spread her rabbit arms and embraced Kanji.
“What are you doing here Rukya?” Kanji asked confused.
“I’m here to inform you that I’ve found a room for our club and I’ve come up with a name too.” She squealed. “Hyome’s here too.” Rukya turned and dragged the female cat inside. The cat hesitated then spoke.
“H…Hi K…Kanji.” She shakily greeted.
“Hello Hyome.” Enkai said from the table.
“Ok there is a room towards the back on the third floor of our high school that we can use as a club room. And we should name our club the ‘Make Believers’.” She said with a smile on her face.
“The Make Believers?” Enkai questioned.
“You know the monsters from when we were kids pretending to fight them and now that were older, we abandoned them and so they decided to come to life for real and attack Tokyo.” She explained to him. “We could gather as a club and destroy these monsters like old times, but of course these monsters are real now.”
“Are you sure about this?” Hyome asked nervously.
“Of course I’m sure. Why would we have these special abilities if we couldn’t put them to good use?” Rukya chimed and formed a yellow orb that looked like liquid flames in her hand. It glowed brightly lighting up the room. Kanji looked at his watch and got wide eyed.
“We’re going to be late for school!” He shouted and grabbed his coat and bag. The four of them gathered in front of a broken down house at the end of the street where Kanji’s apartment complex sat. It was cold outside considering it was the middle of December. Unfortunately, there was no snow on the ground yet; but it was still cold. The four walked to school together. Rukya was going off about deciding a president and what to do about sign up forms. They reached the school and went to their home room. The teacher took roll and each student stayed standing when their names were called.
“Kanji Ikuto.” The teacher called. Kanji stood. Some of the girls sighed when he stood. He was wearing a white sleeveless vest with white shorts.
“Enkai Takao.” The teacher said. He stood. And more girls sighed. He was wearing a sleeveless white vest and white shorts as well.
Then the teacher called the girl’s names. “Rukya Suzukino and Hyome Inoshiro.” They stood. Rukya was wearing a white button up short sleeve shirt that was short so her belly fur could be seen and white short shorts. Hyome wore the same top but longer white pants. These were the school uniforms besides wearing whatever jacket during the winter. School flew by fast and Rukya led them to the room to use as a club.
The room was dusty from not being used. A big window overlooked the court yard and the street where parents would drop off their kids. It was a bit stuffy in the room so Rukya walked over to the window and opened it letting the cold air rush in. the breeze felt nice, like winter was welcoming itself into the groups lives.
Rukya pulled up a white board and began writing on it. She put in big letters ‘Make Believers’.
“I will be president of this club.” She stated and wrote her name on the board.
“There goes the voting plan.” Enkai grumbled.
“And I want Kanji to be my second in command in case I’m not here.” She wrote Kanji’s name on the board. Kanji put his paw on his forehead.
“Now we just need to clean up the place and make it look like the Make Believers.” Rukya commanded. Over the next three hours the place was straightened. There was a book shelf that lined the left wall with mythical creature books and fantasy novels. The other side of the room had a mini stove and some smaller shelves with odds and ends nick-knacks. And a long table in the middle of the room. A small desk was placed by the window with a computer on it.
“There we are; our club room is complete. Now Make Believers can begin!” She chimed with a smile.
It was now dark outside as the group went their separate ways to their home. They were excited about the next day to start their club. They didn’t know that starting this club was going to change their futures forever.
