Demonstrating a very useful fursuit sewing technique! Appliqué! Useful for plush/stuffed animals as well as costumes of course. This tutorial demonstrates how to applique on to fake fur using a sewing machine. Straight Stitch and Zigzag (aka Satin stitch) are used.
This photo shows the supplies used: Fabric, pins, stuffing, wire brush, comb, charcoal pencil, stuffing tool, sharp tiny scissors, regular scissors. Not shown: sewing machine, thread.

Because the area you are sewing when you start with the straight stitch is covered by the backing of your square of paw pad fabric, and the backing of your fake fur. The fur itself is sandwiched in between. When you do the satin stitch/zigzag on the top side, just do it slowly and carefully move the fibers out of the way.

This is actually just stretchy vinyl, it comes from the fabric store and comes in lots of colors! Walmart carries it, Joann's carries it, Hancock fabrics carries it, etc etc.
However, this applique technique works for lots of different kinds of fabric! Pick something that doesn't fray, and you'll be all set!
