This one took me forEEEVVVVERRRR...but it was well worth it in the end...I give you, the Collective Flyer Drone!
The newer cousin to the Hunter Chopper, the Collective Flyer Drone is an autonomous flying machine that can be piloted if necessary by infantry. Flyer Drones are the workhorses of the Collective Air Force, its many roles include: escorting infantry and tank divisions, dropping supplies, troop transport, assault craft, and hunter-killer.
The Flyer, when not being piloted by another Collective unit, is a hard working and devastating machine blistering with weaponry. Easy to spot but incredibly hard to take down, Flyers have unique abilities to shift and flex their wings in order to perform tight maneuvers, and their main wing-set can fold in two ways.
Defensive/passive mode is when the Flyer's lower wings are level and the upper wings are tucked on top of them, this shields the majority of weaponry the flyer has and also increases it's protection against incoming fire from top, bottom and side. This also gives the Flyer better aerodynamics, allowing it to reach its top speed of about 180mph.
Combat mode is when the Flyer's wings are spread apart in an "X" shape, giving it a very intimidating look. The weapons are revealed in this state, and the Flyer becomes much more agile in the air, albeit less protected from enemy fire.
The Flyer's wings allow it to trade off speed and maneuverability at will, making it a very formidable enemy for the UNMD. However, much like the Hunter Chopper, it is a single-minded drone, and can only engage so many targets at a time. This can be negated with a Collective Pilot at the helm, but this is rarely seen outside of a major assault or air combat situation.Another feature is the Flyer's thermal imaging, which it uses to track targets, it is the only way the machine can see outside of basic communication with the Commanding unit, this means UNMD soldiers can hide their thermal signature to evade detection.
The Collective Flyer can take off and land vertically, and has two very powerful engines that generate more than enough thrust to push it along at very high speeds. Its distinct howl in the air is a warning to all: Be ready.
