This here was the result of sheer boredome and an art block which this actually broke. Still happy with it though. ^^
The Neokan are a hominid species derived from Neanderthal. A species they refer to as the masters uplifted them from Earth long ago. They tell of a time when some were used as laborers and others kept as servants and even pets. It is from the later two case the Neokan come from as the advent of robotics technology did away with the need for a labor caste. The Neokan retain many child like qualities which their former Masters had selected for. Neokan say their masters kept them in lieu of having their own children. They have several genetic modifications which their Master gave them. The first which was also applied to the labor caste as to make them mono gender. This allowed for tight control of their breeding as none could reproduce on their own. The next was a modification to their eyes to allow them to see into the the ultraviolet range as their masters could. They were also given modifications to their hearing to allow them to hear into the infrasound range as their masters could. Exclusively to the Neokans were cosmetic changes that kept them appearing as perpetual children. The last which the Neokan refer to as the Great Gift was to extend the Neokan life span to that of their masters allowing them to live for centuries. The Labor cast eventually gave way to machines leaving the Neokans as servants.
It is thought that part of the reason they were kept childlike was to prevent a possible uprising and while this may be so in part it appears another reason was to allow for their learning period to extend through their entire lives. Neokans became highly skilled in fields of interest and fairly knowledgeable on a number of general subjects. They were standard crew on many of their Masters ships though always subservient to others. This however changed as their former masters began to slowly die off. In an attempt to make themselves immortal they had inadvertently destroyed their immune system. Slowly the masters died off leaving the Neokan as the inheritors of a civilization.
Zane stood at the range aboard his ship firing his Pistol at holographic targets. He rarely had to take up a weapon but he liked to keep his skills sharp. He was a Commander aboard the ship and a long time Crew member. He was part of the original crew that first contacted Earth though he was just an ensign then. Not a whole lot had changed since then though He now wore his hair short, his uniform's shoulders were now gold rather than green. Aside from that little else beyond job had changed. The only sound at the empty range between shots was the crinkle of his diaper. A garment most wore. It was common in their days when the Masters were still alive and while some no longer used them Zane still did. It was common enough that standard uniforms unzipped in the legs to make changes easier. Zane sighed as he shot. This fact elicited a variety of responses from humans. Cute or Gross being the two most common. Zane shrugged it off though. After a century Humans seemed to for the most part get used to that. There were even a few now serving on the ship. Zane looked back having to look up a bit at one such crew member as he came in.
Well hope you guys liked the pic and the lil story.

If you mean diapers I'd imagine most would as it'd mean you'd get all the way through your shift without needing a break. They be essential for someone in a single man vessel like a fighter. If you mean the Uniform it's also yes though some depending on the person might lack the crotch zippers and odds are one man craft pilots would be wearing an environmental suite should they have to bail out of the craft or should the cabin rupture.
Super creative species bio as always Lig. Neanderthals uplifted by an alien race isn't something I could've come up with but it certainly seems like a feasible idea concept. I like how the Masters reasons for doing this don't seem entirely pure, what with possibly making the decisions they made to keep potential uprisings at a minimum. That being said, it certainly seems like the dedication and loyalty of the Neokan paid off with them inheriting the rungs of an ancient and technologically advanced civilization and gaining all these useful traits. I would imagine that when the Masters died off that the vast majority of Neokan mourned at their passing.
Thanks. ^^ That was part of the intention. The Masters had mostly noble intentions but they also ceased on the opportunity to use the situation to their own gain. They saw it as a win win. The Neadnerthals survive all be it in a altered state and the Masters get a boost to their labor division.
And Yeah I could see most of them mourning the Masters' passing. Odds are they probably have a holiday to remember and give thanks to them. ^^
