I've had this image floating around in my head, along with a story idea

the character pictured is essentially a fallen angel. He was subject to the cruelty of Seraphim and had his wings crudely removed. What's pictured is all that's left and decaying. It's very painful for him also

the reason he "fell" was because he fell in love with a mortal girl, and the Seraphim mistook it as lust, so they found him and cut his wings and cast him to Earth, still immortal and sentenced to suffer for eternity
