this is D-4m8.R (pronounced: Deformator)

he's basically several red-gleaming orbs containing a strange substance which has some kind of magnetic power.
those orbs can bend and combine any kind of metal, scrap and also some non-metals. all 'things' basically.

D-4m8-R usually appears as a very bendable, haggard looking machine-thing where two of said orbs always take the place of his 'eyes'.

each orb can act separately from the rest but can't create a more complex gestalt on its own.

he once was a Jotun - a race of beings that lived on a planet called Udgart which consisted only of ice and water. a lot of the Jotuns mimiced this element. - called Mourpha, who, as the name implies, could morph his body into several forms. he was one of the most gifted jotun with this ability.

after he and several others were send on a mission which lasted longer than everyone expected, a couple of centuries to be exact, he, along with the others who were with him, sacrificed, in order to survive and continue this mission, more and more of his body, replacing it with technology.

though their physical abilities were preserved or just slightly altered, their brains, their memory banks were not.
now, centuries later, of this once quite big group of beings
there are only a few left 'alive'.
those survivors would be known as the Machines.

most of 'em don't have enough of their former self in them anymore to remember who they were.
