Cheating = Unskillful and loser.

historically, cheats were used only to get out of unbearable situations (having 4 shotgun shells to beat the spider mastermind in doom for exemple) or to mess around with the game (I once found a living space marine in an area in final doom, you couldn't do anything to it if you were in god mode, but if you switched off god mode, you'd take damage if you shot him (one bfg9000 blast = instant death) and it was only possible to find him using the idclip cheat.), today well it's fucked.

though I enjoy making baddies suffer while using the notarget cheat code in soldier of fortune 2 >:D

Personaly, I like to play through a game first without cheats, then I'll go back and use cheats to alter things.. it can be fun..

Quake: Telefrag

Commander Keen (episodes 4 to 6): while using the noclip cheat, even if you have god mode turned on, you can still die if you quit the limits of the level.

Doom 2: You can be telefragged in the last level (this was hard-coded though, as you can't be telefragged in other levels unless they are hard-coded to allow telefrag)

Soldier of Fortune 1 and 2: you die if you kill too many allies/hostages, even with god mode on.

Yep, it's fun finding all the bits and peices.. oftenthough, my cheats just go to unlimited amo and sometimes heal items.. Past that.. I just like playing the games through from scratch. My roomie like, saves all of her games and me? I've ONE game card which I restart all the time. She can't believe it lol

well, cheats allow you to find unusual stuff.

I don't remember in which sonic the hedgehog game I found that, but while using the developer mode, I found a "tile" (in this case, it was a ground sprite and it had the correct collision detection, but the sprite itself was placed well behind the level boundaries, which makes me wonder...

normally, such sprite would have been left without collision detection, which would have meant sonic would have fallen through is when I had switched back to gameplay mode, so why was a single ground sprite left where I could stand on it? was it part of a level path that got deleted, and someone forgot to delete said sprite?

also, when you think about it, the now famous "SEEEEGAAAAAAAAA" sound took most of the cartridge memory, so if the cartridge was tight on memory, that single sprite, with its collision detection code, theorically could have kept the programmers from putting stuff in another level due to lack of space

but I'm thinking too much here xD

Or sometimes, they just don't finish something, or during the developement time they make something but end up taking it out, but still leave part of the codes. I know like int he Sims, you can on the earlier games, use a debug mode where you can pull up a couple tombstones for life and death.. When they where developing the neighborhoods, this let them set up several starter homes quickly, without having to go through the actual gameplay to set it up. In some o fhte later expansions they took away this feature, which is a sad sad day..

in the snes port of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, midway took out the character Sheeva, but for some strange reason there was most of her code left in, with her sprites removed. while she was selectable (while setting up tournament mode -by holding down r+l and pressing start-, doing the random character selection code ( up+start), you'll often get her), she is HIGHLY buggy and most of the time you'll make the game crash by just jumping over your oponent (for some reason, she'll pass through the floor and the camera will try to follow her, which ends up fucking up the whole game, and making the screen turn black. you can't do anyhting beside resetting the game or switching off the console.

yea, certain games have characters or other things that when they took them out, they left bits.

Well, I remember managing to access a fourth act of Metropolis Zone by playing around in a hex editor with the values that tell it what order the levels play in.

It has badniks, and floors, and all that - but no rings. Might've been item monitors, it's been a while and I don't remember anymore.

My guess as to why it exists at all? Well, notice how all the other zones have "Act 1" and "Act 2"? The game's probably coded for 2-acts-per-zone. So to get around that for Metropolis Zone, they probably just made "Metropolis Zone A" and "Metropolis Zone B", changed the level in B to display it as "Act 3", and simply skipped over the spare act.

if you really did find that, I'm pretty sure there would be hackers interested in your story x3 (not the bad hackers, the ones who finds stuff in roms) because as far as these guys knows, there's only one level accessible through game genie and it'S the remains of a level from the sonic 2 beta cartridge that didn't make the cut.

Oddly enough, on my first run through I ended up beating the spider mastermind with just a pistol. It took friggin forever and I had to hide in that center building every second shot to avoid being turned into paste. I had a strategy, though, to run around and make the other demons attack the spider mastermind to give me a chance, and it actually worked.

Then I found cheat codes and replayed the games like ten gazillion times just to be a badass and walk around killing things.

DOOMII I beat in one afternoon. Wasn't mine, was the neighbor's. He was stuck on some level (lots of walkways over acid or something) and I took over. I actually got blasted off the column and into the little hole on the final boss level, and got to see THE FACE.

My neighbor never forgave me.

A LIVING SPACE MARINE IN DOOM!? I thought you were supposed to be alone, all ALONE on MARS.

well that's called going through the limits of a game engine. the second space marine is hidden in an unreachable place (only reachable with the noclip cheat), and the marine (refered to as a voodoo) is linked to the player. if the player gets somewhere bad or if they do something they're not supposed to do (say, switching the wrong switch), the voodoo doll gets crushed, killing the player in the process.

.....woah.. that is VERY interesting O.O Why can't the game just crush the character that you are controlling.

the engine didn't have code to deal with stuff like that.

it's like the fact you normally can't make bridges in doom, and yet people found workarounds to that (going from the simple texture to real bridges using advanced stuff)

XD cheating is bad . . . only if you cheat while playing the game . . . but imagine having to make a game whithout noclip or any other cheats. :P

I think cheats in single player game is fine as long as you beat the game legitimately first and then mess around with them later.

thing is, I almost beat Half Life the first time I actually installed it on my hard disk, on hard difficulty, but at the end while fighting the weird baby-like thing, I was forced to use cheats to figure out how to beat it.

once i cleared the game multiple times i used noclip to find the cake and cube.. other than noclip its impossible, though theres a fake vid on youtube claiming you can.

Do you know if there is a noclip code for the 360 version?

im not sure. you see, noclip is really just part of the built in Developers console, designed for people who make maps or games. im not saying it ISNT, but you'd probably need to just find the code or option that enables dev. console. the ~ key should activate it if you put a USB keyboard into the 360 and devmode is active.

Ah. Maybe the whole sv_ceats set to 1 is the dev thingy on the 360 maybe?
I don't have a usb keyboard so can't test that factor. >.<

yes, to run cheats in valve games it must be SV_cheats 1 , then for noclip the command "noclip" is to be entered, also, all weapons and ammo is "impulse 101" and if memory serves, flashlight on is "impulse 100" mostly used when you dont have the flashlight. however this doesnt seem to work in portal.

Portal?

Eh, the game was a bit dry when I watched it. Nothing all that different from all the other games out there. It makes a good meme though.

It may be dry to watch, but when you're the one trying to figure out a puzzle, It's very addicting.

Have you checked out Portal Prelude yet? it's awesome as well, and quite nearly tenfold harder.. I'm still working on it.


Portal Prelude is a thirdparty mod/addon that is just as long as the original. It's made by some French guys.

a) The companion cube is a ...well, cube you have to carry with you through a complete level. (Don't forget, the Apperture Science weighted companion cube can and will not talk to you. If it should, ignore it's advice).
b) Without spoiling too much, the computer promises that "there will be cake" at the end of your testing. The scribbles all over the walls tell something different, though ;)

Portal is a.. humm.. is made in the spirit of a FPS (first person shooter) but lacks the immediate action.. or at least the same amount.

Basic run down is that you are a guinea pig to try out a new device that creates holes. You run mazes to test out the new device. GLaDOS, the computer, encourages you to succeed, so you can have cake. Things go smoothly, until you, the protagonist, realize what's about to happen in test room 18.

What is portal?

Portal is a.. humm.. is made in the spirit of a FPS (first person shooter) but lacks the immediate action.. or at least the same amount.

Basic run down is that you are a guinea pig about try out a new device that creates holes or portals for transportation purposes. You run mazes to test out the new device. GLaDOS, the computer, encourages you to succeed, promising that you can have cake when the test is completed. Things go smoothly, until you, the protagonist, realize what's about to happen in test room 19.

Oh man, I LOVED Portal. I've played it over a couple times now as I Love the voice of the computer as it's freaking awesome, especially during the battle. XD The curiosity node (the yellow node thingy) you destroy is cute and funny. XD This pic fucking rocks.
I take it you guys have The Orange box for 360 or PC? If 360, maybe we can play each other sometime. Like that Team Fortress game. ^^ XD

Is it bad that after seeing your image I have images of a companion cube having other "things" inside it of a sexual variety, like some od type of moduilar type thingy, where the companion cube makes it even mopre then a simple companion? Kinda ahrd to explain, but I guess almost as though how it actually is alive, but usualy remains silent (even though in game they say or the computer says that they cant talk and are inanimate. Of course, if ones mind is kinda mesed up from various things or tests, maybe it would be alive to them. God, I'm seeing almost like as though it transforms or something odd. Or just certain areas seem to have fun "toys" come from various previously unseen pockets or movable panels.

Thena gain, maybe Zen is enjoying one such aspect of that companion cube. God my imaginations is really running on completely wild and random. ^^; I seem to be thinging slightl;y as though the cube is alive. Its so cute, you really don't want to destroy it. T_T

Anywho, great job on this pic and with that, I really should stop talking lest my sleep foggy mind makes me say other odd stuff or weirdness. Or think of other weird ideas for inanimate objects.

The picture makes me laugh. The way he clutches that Companion Cube and the expression are great. That is just what I imagine some lonely person with only a Companion Cube to keep him company could become.
