I wouldn't be surprised if you were very good at it . I highly recommend Wayne Barton's books on chip carving . The trick I guess is to get the three cuts to meet correctly so the chips just pop out . The other thing is using the positive and negative space . Go for it , I look forward to some great carvings .
The chip carving is not really hard or time consuming once you get the hang of it . The lettering took the most time . It's pretty simple , but you have to get three cuts to neatly meet in the same place every time . I highly recommend Wayne Barton's books on chip carving . That's how I taught myself how to chip carve . I just took thirty seconds on you-tube and found a bunch of how to videos . I'm betting after watching one you'll say to yourself " shit that's easy I can do it " It just takes practice and some patience . The longer you do it the faster you will get . Basically you only need one knife with straight blade . Once you get it you'll find that layout takes longer then the carving in most cases . Feel free to ask questions I'll try to help . And let me know how you do .
