Woodland Cammo was the rage when I was in, then my stint during Desert Shield in country saw us in the first version of the Desert Cammo BDU's.

Since from a long time after I have lived in the PNW in a naval town and worked for a contractor at all the bases nearby - The nuke sub base at Bangor, Keyport Weapons station, Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Fort Lewis, McChord AirForce base, and stuff out at the Hanford reservation (I got to see the dead sub reactor graveyard there, awesome to see a giant pit with these huge steel cylinders lined up on concrete rails. The contact for the job I was doing took me by there and said when the pit rails were full of em, it would be covered by a mountain of dirt, and would be deadly hot for the next 10,000 years.)...

Anyway, The first time I saw the digi cammo was a job at Bangor. Color me stupid, but I don't see how its better in my mind, but I am sure its been studied and works. I just dont have the details of why nor can figure it out on my own.

We actually had a class when it became mandatory to wear the acu pattern on how to blend into the enviroment with it. I remember the class quite well, they said if we were in a woodland enviroment go find or make a big mud pit and roll around in it if we really really had to blend in. After that day anytime anybody asked me about the new color pattern I said "It's absolutley worthless unless your in a wet gravel pit."

What place on earth is mostly gravel? Must have been designed ahead of time so the Army was ready... When we graduated from a war in sand, to one in gravel... 8-P
