Joanna comes from Starhaven , a world that rejected hi technology for a more simple life during colonization.
She grew up happy in a rural community , she fought along with other irregular militia during the attempted invasion of Starhaven by the Rostof emptier .
Joanna earned her first bounties hunting down surviving empire marines who where marauding in the back woods , looting isolated communities and killing indiscriminately.
She became quite adept at it but more and more of her quarries escaped off world beyond her reach , much to Joanna's frustration.
With great reluctance, Joanna left her home to hunt down those fugitives from justice only to get bogged down by more legal bureaucracy.
She would have wind up in jail herself if she didn't get help from a sympathetic bureaucrat in applying for a legal bounty hunting license.
With the Allied System;s Commonwealth's resources stretched to the limit after the war with the empire , they just didn't have the manpower to hunt down war criminals and other marauders left behind in alliance space .

At some point , with no ships leaving port early enough for her to keep up with her latest bounty , Joanna forcefully negotiated passage on the Gull , at gunpoint.
She negotiated to generously split her bounty with the crew to compensate them for the inconvenience hence calming the building animosity.
Things did not work out as planed , her bounty didn't pay out as expected and she ended up owing captain Faykin more credits that she could ever pay so Joanna ended up working for Silk to reimburse her debt.
Joanna has take charge of the ship's motor pool and hanger deck as well as picking up the occasional light bounty when in port for extra cash.
