Caves and Critters - Chap 03 Page 10
Through a practiced knowledge of forces and how to manipulate them efficiently, the monks of the monastery from which Duk hails have learnt to perform incredible feats of apparently superhuman levels (as mentioned before with the flying rock trick on the hilltop.)
By blocking the flying arch, and letting the kinetic energy ripple through his body and circle back round to his feet and hands, he can send it flying back the way it came - but such skills take practice, as even the slightest delay in the return of the kinetic wave would have caused it to disperse in him, resulting in intense damage to himself and, of course, the rock collapsing onto the city below anyway.
And then we have Ghargash, who, having identified the Ogre as male, does the most distracting thing he can think of - a blast of cold water to the danglies. :P
So he's a little possibly fun/possibly intensely boring factoid - when trying to figure out how to draw characters for unusual poses/perspectives, I use 3D Studio Max and it's Biped system to arrange the scene in 3D, then take a screencap and build the comic panel from it. Whilst I can't deny the glaring similarities, Earthbenders can lift, move and shape rock and earth at will - Duk could have done what he did there with a lump of metal, or brick, or anything else sufficiently solid to not shatter on contact :P But he did have to make contact to pull it off.
