More work on this today. About 8 more hours. As you can see I've done most of the character work, now - built up a crowd scene. I've used established characters of mine, and some new ones. You would probably guess their identities more easily in color.
Also I received an excellent critique/redline regarding the angle of the gate - and so I adjusted the right side of the gate down a bit, and I think it looks a lot better now.
Stuff left to do in the sketch - the signs, detail of the cobbled road, scales of the dragon, detail on the gate (tiles, fish etc) Any additional detail will most likely be added in the painting process. I just need penciled in the guidelines I'll need to follow while painting. This piece will not be inked. Any linework I decide it needs I will do with a paintbrush. I want this to be all acrylics.
If anyone has any critiques, feel free to share, I'm still at a point where I can make changes - though major changes I will probably be reluctant to do at this point unless I really feel it would make a positive difference.

Hmm... that wouldn't be too hard to fix. Actually there was something else I'm planning to do to the awning, too - move the angle up a bit to be more parallel to the lines on the side of the building above it. Sometimes things look fine up close - but when you step away or view the whole thing, it looks a lot different.
The only problem is I'll have to redraw part of the dragon atop the awning - and that part I really like =(. Oh well, one shouldn't be afraid to destroy the things one likes in hopes of making it better.
Thank you for the crit. Its always good to have an extra pair of eyes.
And I do enjoy one-upping myself... =)

I'd do that, and move the awning poles so that the couple standing closest to it (the sitting girl speaking with the male) are sitting under it. I think that'd make the awning seem more in porportion it is with the size of the building behind it.
Beautiful work, Kacey. A shoutout from the onehanded artist who was sitting next to you at EF13. :3
