Been a while since I last did any TF2 art. In any case, here's the BLU Pyro, Ashley, one of the two members of the team without a given surname (the other being the Spy). The Pyro was given this name in part because it's fairly androgynous and thus keeps their gender (and the rest of their identity) a mystery.
Onto the art itself, something with the flamethrower or a flare gun has been done to death so hey, may not play a big part in the fanfic, but let's give the stock fire axe some love.
I knew from the start that the background would have a real world + pyroland split which would be a pain to do properly.
The background is made up of several layers depicting a storm and a raging inferno, and then pyroland duplicates of a grassy field with a rainbow were made.
Originally it was going to be a clean diagonal split, but it looked awful and so one with glimpses of the "reality" peeking through the pyroland was made, all blurry. That didn't work too well, so I eventually went with the current concept: pyroland being divided by the presence of the pyro themselves in the centre, axe in hand.
Considering the weapon, and Ashley's struggle to remain sane, this seemed very appropriate.
Hard to tell how long this took exactly as there were a few distractions and interruptions but otherwise I tried to do it all at once. Some of the little details took quite some time, especially regarding lighting.
I think this probably took about 4-5 hours, leaning more towards 5. As ever, made solely in the GIMP.
