Here. This was from a job we did about a month ago. We had to replace 260 ft of old galvanized pipe with 4 inch copper. We used Victaulic fittings to run the new main. It took us just over two weeks to install.

                    why copper?
seens alot of steel or cast to stainless conversions for industrial applications.
or underground some of these new plastics
have seen large copper used for refrigeration though o.O
or was it that the locals never wanted to see random spurts of rust in thier sink ever again?

Normal Steel pipe can't be used for potable water. It is either PEX, Copper, or Galvanized Steel. And that is what they had was galvanized, but it rusted really badly. Also, Galvanized steel has to be cut and threaded, it would have taken weeks to run that 4 inch pipe. The copper was ran with Vic joints. Which are put together in seconds.
